Roof Bars

I'm about to buy some roof bars for the D4. I've settled on Whispbars but can't decide whether to get the flush bar version...

http://www.roofbox.co.uk/fitting/K450-S26-02.pdf which look better, or the through bars...

http://www.roofbox.co.uk/fitting/K436-S17-01.pdf which I could fit more on.

Anyone got any opinions which could help sway my decision?

We have Thule bars that go beyond the fitting (135cm bars from memory). As you've stated, you can fit more on (roofbox plus 2 bikes for example - with a little room to spare), but even if you are not filling it, you can mount a roof box / bike carrier much closer to the side of the car. Unless you are 7ft tall, this makes accessing it much easier.

I think they look better too. (Opinions may vary). Razz

As you say, the flush ones look better IMO, but the ones that extend beyond the fitting are much more practical.

So really depends on what you intend to carry. If you just want to carry a roofbox then get the flush ones.

Think I'm going to go with the longer, through bars. They won't stay on the D4 permanently so the extra practicality make more sense.

Whispbar roofbars are so good....

...you can easily forget they are there.

Which is mostly fine except today I went to the tip and only narrowly avoided destroying the rear bar.

The hi-viz crew at our local tip are quality & can really move fast when necessary.

I have the Thule Aerobars which are a through fitting and extend past the foot. They look pretty good IMHO and have allowed roof box + kayak + paddles for summer trips and luggage tray loaded with bags + 2 sets of skis strapped on for winter trips in the past Thumbs Up
