Roof Ladder

Whilst wondering around Billing with my family today I came across something I was searching for. A roof ladder to go on the back of my D3 so I can reach stuff on the roof rack. I do miss the Spare Wheel as I always used that as a ladder on my TD5.

The ladder was on a D3 at the Mantec stand, and it looked just the job.

The problem was when I asked the Mantec staff how much it was they told me they weren't for sale yet as were still in trials with Land Rover and won't be available for several months yet Sad

Does anyone know of another manufacturer who has actually got Roof Ladders available for the D3?

There were some posts about a roof tent and they had attached a ladder to their DISCO3.

Someone cleverer than me could find the post I'm sure... or use the search facility for 'tent'

Hope this helps.

By the way... good to say hello today !

Mantecs roof ladder was a clever design, had a good look myself. It used the rear lights to cover the fixing up. Not sure how it would stand the test of time at the top of the door and the stress on the hinges. That is possibly why it is not for sale yet.

I searched for a lot of weeks to find a ladder for my D3 to enter my roof tent.
Onetime I got the information of a member of the german experience crew that this ladder you found at Mantec is the same as LR is using for the D3-G model.
But today it’s not possible to by this.

So I had to do the decision either to build one by my one or to buy an existing one and to fit it on my D3.

I choosed the second one.
I got a standard ladder from a motor home dealer. It had to cut it. To fit it was absolutely no problem.

I think the ladder is brilliant. My choice would have been in black that is all. Is the ladder based on an Omni?

The Mantec one is likely to have been a LR design or visa versa.

Brian, I think you will find it was attached to the back of the number plate/ hatch release black plastic thingy (I am sure it really has a proper name). I have some photo's of it, and will post them soon.

I spoke with the chaps there, and they said the ladder will be released as soon as type approval is gained. The snorkel was a prototype, but he said it would go on sale sooner rather than later.

I also spoke to a few suppliers about rock sliders, and got nowhere with that one! The guy from Discoparts said he would do some in about 4 -5 years when demand allows.

Gareth, the Mantec ladder was indeed fixed by hooking over the top lip of the tailgate and then removing the rear number plate light and using those fixings.
