Indeed so. Indeed, "Great Britain" as it is seen by a certain "patriotic" sector of our society, was built on the backs of slaves and the revenue from stolen lands. Much of what we enjoy today is the result of that so there is "blood" on all our hands in that regard.

"When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die! You don't know who's children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken. How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they were always going to have to do from the very beginning: SIT DOWN AND TALK!"

By conquest ...or just taken. ...isn't it called 'ill gotten gains' Wink
The gaff is bought and paid for btw...not taken, nor acquired

It may well be "bought and paid for", but how was the land that "The Gaff" is built on originally acquired?
Once upon a time it wouldn't have belonged to anyone and someone would have simply helped themselves to it, then perhaps it was claimed by winning a fight or a battle with those who were settled on it or working it. I suppose your term "ill gotten gains" would be applicable, no?. Whatever the history, the facts remain that originally the land belonged to nobody and there was no initial acquisition cost, other than perhaps loss of life or injury.

The owners of most privately owned homes will contribute to the "Public Purse" by payment Council Tax and various taxes that may be applicable when the houses are bought and sold. Whilst I can only speak for myself, I don't offer public "access" to my house and garden.

In contrast, George III gave over what had been Royal owned land, estates and properties, to the Crown Estate. link: https://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/

I see, so if we didn't have a Royal Family in the UK you think that equal opportunities in the UK would be improved. Interesting, what work/jobs opportunities are the Royals denying others?

You haven't explained how equal opportunities in the UK would be improved if the Royal Family didn't exist.

I don't think I ever suggested that they did or didn't ...you raised it and you formed a misplaced inference to any further mention of it.

When you kept whining on about however I did say:

You referred to equality and in the context of my general view of equality I replied "All I seek is equal opportunity ..some will choose to take it ...others won't" I didn't say that the royals denied others of it... you did ...but I guess of course that if the layman wanted to be royal or hold a hereditary title he couldn't ...he is denied of it....so in a way there's your answer.

Not sure what else you want me to say?

Lots and lots and lots between the earth cooling and the dinosaurs, maybe they have a claim. Or maybe not as the rock the Gaff is sat on didn’t exist until the Palaeogene, 48 - 56 MY ago. Whistle Whistle

No whining from me DG, I’m just trying to understand your opinions. I actually think there are many positive benefits to the UK as a result of Harry’s wedding.
Did I say or imply that the royals denied others of equal opportunities? I think that was your implication.
Thanks for the answer. A layman not being able to be a royal or hold an heriditary title, as a source of inequality in the UK. That’s a good one! Although not entirely accurate, as proved last Saturday. Thumbs Up
