The other thing to consider is that the UK has an unfeasibly large number plate where as other countries in the market tend to be much smaller and less in your face ...so is it really worth the change? Confused

If it was considered to be that negative then the redesign costs would not be that considerable IMO ...stalling the market waiting for it to be released at this early stage would however be more costly.

If they do change the rear at least us early adopters will have an original, a classic iconic design Whistle

It is called "embarasement".

I believe that it's not selling well because:-

The poorly designed "back end" - a split tailgate like the D3 & D4 would be MUCH better; &

It's diesel - there is an unstoppable swing towards EVs & particularly PEHVs. I don't want to buy a vehicle which will have accelerated depreciation because of the wrong fuel; &

The Price/Specification - it doesn't offer reasonable value for money to traditional purchasers of Land Rovers.

I've owned RRs & Discos continuously for nearly 40 years, the first being a two door "Classic RR"; I'd love to buy a D5, but sadly won't do so until all three issues above have been addressed.

This is an odd story... I've been led to believe that UK dealers are very happy with the way sales of the D5 have been going? Of course, there are some on here who think ever increasing sales are the most important thing to a brand and that we'll all forgive LR for the design cock-up as long as sales go up !!!

Correct, my dealer has no trouble selling them.

And global sales, well the car ain't available in the US yet, it's not had its launch yet in Africa (an owner on D5 site waiting). So I don't know they can judge global sales when a lot of markets have yet to get the car Confused

We passed a silver D5 on the motorway the other day, sorry but the back end as a whole is horrendous, and certainly enough to put me off buying one

Waiting for sales results is usually regarded as 'too late'. The pre-launch feedback from Asia and North America is giving JLR enough jitters to consider a design tweak.

The ugly sister back end of the new Discovery was a central discussion point at our local Velar launch.

Talked more about that than the actual Velar.

LR need to sort this design failure out ASAP and reintroduce a proper split tailgate. Whistle

Having lived with one for a couple of months there are more important flaws than how a number plate is positioned, that's well down my list.
