I find it highly amusing that those that don’t like the D5, for what ever reason it may be, are concerned with its sales figures, when LR clearly aren’t, that they felt the need to push prices up further and still don’t offer massive discounts.

Ahh but that's because many on here know far more about LR's business than LR. At the end of the day, if you like it then buy one, if you don't do something else.

Regardless of wether we like it or not, it’s inevitable that they’ll be much discussion on a D3/4 forum about the D5. Thumbs Up

I think DG’s last post on this thread hits the nail on the head. Myself and I suspect most of us here were hoping that the D5 would be pretty much a direct replacement for the D4. For some of course it is, but for me and many others it’s not.
The problem is, there isn’t currently a new vehicle from any manufacturer that is a direct replacement for the D4.
There’s a lot of hope resting on the new Defender range. I’m resigned now to the fact that I’ll have to compromise, it will just be a case of eventually having to decide which aspects of the brilliant D4 I’m prepared to compromise on. That’s the problem of having a vehicle that is almost perfect for what I need it to do.

dont underestimate too much that LR wont be listening and what might happen...the same issue is impacting the velar (a lovely car) but miss priced.

Whether all of the "demands" will be acknowledged is doubtful at best - but some are

Odd Confused The Velar is currently achieving monthly sales on par with it's sister the Jag F Pace and is the 3rd biggest seller for LR ...not a bad achievement considering it was only released in July 16. There was a queue to sit in it in the showroom on Saturday Laughing

I said it before

Freelander2/Disco Sport/Disco 5 - march of progress

D4+Defender = DC100 combination
To my mind the much loved Defender needed a Disco upgrade. D3 and D4 should have had Defender style utility versions from the beginning.... may be even from D1 era. This would have been direct competition for Toyota and Mitsi's as they entered the market.

Not sure why LR need to compete with Toyota or Mitsubishi? Surely they need to produce as many cars at the highest margins as possible. Why take up line space building a £20K car that the masses say they should build when it can be a £50-£70K car or more. They aren't struggling selling cars, it is LR enthusiasts (many of whom have never bought a car from a LR dealer or had one serviced there) that have the problem.

LR need to make money and improve quality to keep them happy and its customers - simple!

If anyone wants to hear fairly one sided and complimentary conversation about the D5, there's always Disco5.co.uk I certainly don't see any D4 owners go there to criticise the owners' opinions in the way that D4 owners / ex owners have had to get used to on here.

On this site, we have the freedom of balanced and sometimes robust debate, which will include some who were deeply disappointed by the new car and have either stayed with what they've got, or moved on to other things. Their opinions are every bit as valid as those of owners who happen to genuinely like the D5. Long may it stay that way Thumbs Up

Red Merle, no offence was intended to yourself and others with similar opinions.

People who have D5's can have a laugh, just as anyone on here can make fun of our choice and often do.

As you say the Disc05 forum is for serious discussion about the car and by the way there is plenty of criticism of aspects of the car over there.

IMHO.

Dealer in Oxford never seems to busy when I'm there , sales staff are young and know nothing about the product and the rubbish they say when overhearing when they are talking to a customer you feel like butting in .
Looking at the new customers they are strangers to the product so are gullable , reliability is still the major issues when comparing to other manufacturers.

Have to say I have owned LR cars since 2006 and I have never had a major problem. Mind you that is now the kiss of death on that! Rolling with laughter

So far and it only 10 months the only problems with the D5 have been niggling problems with the infotainment system but that applies to all current JLR products.

Same here. I only go back to summer 2011, but 3 Freelanders, 2 Discos, 1 Full Fat and around 230,000 miles later, they’ve had a handful of very minor issues and neither of the two vaguely interesting issues that I’ve had really warranted the very generous AVC’s (Assisted Vehicle Changes) that I was offered and naturally accepted! Thumbs Up Bit their hand off actually Rolling Eyes

They strike me as better built and more reliable than most and as long as I’ve been fair when there has been an issue, they’ve been better than any other manufacturer that I’ve dealt with before (having pretty lost count of them since 1981!).

This the one in Didcot? Back when they were at Cumnor I had occasion to chat to the sales people. They knew little about the product whether back then. The technicians were little better.
