Sealing the RAI to the body?

Hi guys,

I was so excited to receive my RAI kit unit I installed it on my MY06 V8.

The plastic looks tough but the finish is so rough.

The real reason I am posting today is because I am rather skeptical about this LR Raise Air Intake kit, it is loosely bolted to the side panel with 2 nuts and one on the A-pillar. It does not seems to have a good seal with the body.

Anyone has better idea to ensure it's air tight from the 'square' box to the air filter?

Regards,

Koon Leng

The L-R RAI is designed to reduce the dust intake in desert regions; it is not a snorkel as such.

Even if you do seal the square box to the side of the wing, the internal pipework to the airbox is not watertight (the right-angle bend just by the air box actually has holes moulded in to it).

If watertight is what you're after, get the Safari version ...

Ditto what Spooky says...

A LR RAI will give you added security against water ingress via the intake on the odd occasion you dip under too far. Peace of mind rather than an out and out snorkel. The intake and pipework have drain holes which do help too.

Bear in mind that much of the electronics would also need water proofing even with a snorkel fitted, along with heating and ventilation intakes between the windscreen and bonnet. Most of this is tucked at the top of the engine just above where the level of the air intake is.

AFAIK, the D3 is not designed to be submerged anywhere near as deeply as a correctly prepared Defender.

That being said, many of us here have had water up and over the bonnet and lapping the windscreen with no ill effects. Continuous submersion though would not be recommended Whistle

what simon says

you will also find the air intake is very well positioned so even on deep water the trough behind the bow wave falls nicely where the intake is - just mak sure you keep moving Thumbs Up

this was with an LR RAI

This should give an idea of what you need to seal:
