Seat covering repair... any suggestions? |
|
Whilst sitting in a 3rd-row seat & clearly bored during a long journey, my 6-yr-old daughter decided to lean forward & bite a small chunk out of the top corner of a middle-row seat. Having reached our destination, and then managing to stop myself from biting a small chunk out of her in return, I have come up against nothing but brick walls as to how to fix this. The hole is not in the leather, but in the top of the PVC strip that runs down the side of each rear seat (i.e. between the front facia of leather & back facia of carpet). The hole is about 5mm square in size. The white stuffing is clearly visible underneath - if left, it will not be long before little fingers find their way into this, exacerbating the problem. I believe it could easily be covered with a tiny (say 1.5cm square) patch of the same pvc stuff glued firmly in place. On a 3 month old car, this sounds awful, but, with all 3 seats in the normal/upright position, it would hardly be visible. The alternative (as was oh-so-helpfully provided by my LR dealer) is to either replace the whole seat (ridiculous!) or have it completely re-trimmed (only slightly less ridiculous!). My questions are:
1. Has anyone else had experience of their pvc being damaged or ripping.... so to speak.
2. Does anyone know who manufactures the dark grey pvc side-strips that are used on factory-fitted black leather seats?
3. Are the seats assembled by somebody else for LR? If so, anyone know their number?
Help!!! DGRR

I'd speak to Exmoor, they will probably give some advice as they sell retrims! They advertise in LROI magazine every month. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Is there any 'unseen' material under one of the seat hard plastic trimcaps that can be used and then covered with something similar to prevent it splitting?

Thanks for your help...
Pelyma's suggestion of calling Exmoor was the way forward - FYI, they couldn't have been more helpful: they've told me exactly what to do, are sending me a spare swatch of the correct matching vinyl and all... for FREE. It's nice to stumble accross a supplier who can define (let alone spell) "customer service". So a BIG thumbs-up to Exmoor. DGRR

Good to hear about things like this... Proves that there are still some "nice" companies out there...
