Seldon Hill, Up Cerne

Hi all,

I'm in Dorset on holiday and just spotted loads of byways on the map. I've very little experience off-road, apart from a 'red letter day' gift driving a disco 1 and defender in a quarry about 15yrs ago, but wondering if there are any easy tracks in the area.

I've seen a byway past Seldon Hill, starting at Up Cerne SY654025. Does anyone know if this is suitable for a newby? I've watched a YouTube video of a bike riding along it and it looks like a reasonably firm surface.

Cheers,
Ade

I don't know the area myself, but the user comments on Trailwise2 suggest it is a nice easy lane. Seems to get regular use in a Dacia Duster.

If you join GLASS, you'll get access to www.trailwise2.co.uk which is useful for researching green lanes. Thumbs Up

Thanks Jon - appreciate you looking that up for me. Thumbs Up I might have a look later this week then, assuming nobody local replies with any dire warnings about it!

Will also look into GLASS. I did wonder in the past but thought I'd wait until I'd actually tried my hand once or twice. Unfortunately, not much in my home area (Warwickshire), from what I can see.

Cheers,
Ade

That'll probably be Merv in the Duster . He's a local and out exploring Dorset green lanes all of the time. I met up with him last weekend and drove a few lanes in the RRS.

If you join up to the Dorset GLASS Facebook page, you can get some local advice.

Yup, Merv in the Duster and Rob in his Red 90 are out most weekends.

There's a lovely route over into Corfe Castle from the West. May be a bit scratchy though; not sure when it was last trimmed.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

That one over at Corfe is scratchy at the moment so I didn't take mine over. On the other side, there is Rollington Farm which still has great views over to the castle and is completely non scratchy. Daggers gate just north of Lulworth also has some awesome views and also completely non scratchy.

Thanks all. Non-scratchy is good. Don't like the idea of explaining to her indoors... Shocked

Tollard Royal is another one which is a little closer to the first one you mentioned.
