Service Advisories

Had my 2015 Disco 4 fourth service (37.5k) last week (5 year service pack) at main dealers. Came back with advisorys of:

(i) Rear Discs and Pads required (4mm) - cost of £557
(ii) Park Brake shoes if required when discs replaced - cost £375
(iii) Offside rear inner drive shat gaiter split and
(iv) Rear inner constant velocity joint boot - renew - cost £424

Are these reasonable costs - are these doable and more cost effective at small independents or better to stick with main dealer?

The first two are main agent money spinners forget them, 4mm at least still left on the pads, good for another 5k+ miles, half that price at an Indy, have the rubber boots done at the same time, rear shoes don’t wear!
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

They are main dealer prices! Reasonable is subjective! Whistle

I wouldn't pay that much for brakes, but then I'm sure plenty of people would.

Lots of indys would do that for a lot less. It's not a main dealer job. Thumbs Up

After it came back from service it stood for a few days (had the flu) and then when I came to use it the parking brake wouldn't release (...it did after a few goes and leaving it for 10 mins). That's not the first time I've had that problem - I've asked the dealers to look at it before under warranty but they didn't make much difference. I suspect there may be an issue with the park brake eg poorly fitted?

The dealers also replaced the rear diff (under warranty) last March - could they have split the rubber boots whilst doing that work?

Could it have been the shoes stuck to the drum (damp) , rather than the motor? Mine does it sometimes if left for a while when its last run in wet conditions. I now park it on the drive ,just with the Auto in park to stop it happening , that's if I remember!

as a guide. rear brake pads on my D4 at the dealer was £137 fitted. fronts they wanted £260 fitted.

I got the dealer to fit the rears as it was in there when the warning light came on. but I did the fronts myself, the pads and sensor only cost £59 from AF

Prices are horrendous. I would always advise always using the EPB, it’s when it’s not used most problems occur.

I would ask them how they came to this decision as I recently purchased a used approved d4 and was told that 3mm was good enough to pass the 165 point check also said the fronts were ok but when I popped a front wheel off to check after doing 500mls they had 4mm on the pads and the discs had a 3mm lip on the back, just ordered a set of front genuine discs/pads delivered for £180 genuine parts from the bay of e
only advice I would give is only used genuine if you can as all the cheap/expensive parts I have tried always fail earlier than genuine parts mostly buckled discs

I understand LR advise 3 mm is the minimum pad depth!

^ maybe the case but they were more than happy to send me off in a 26k car with 3mm pad thickness saying they were ok (new pads have 18mm on them)

The Genuine LR pads I fitted last weekend had 12mm of material and 6mm of backing for the fronts, and 12mm with 5mm backing on the rears.
