Had service done today probably did more harm than good! |
|
Took car to local indie for a routine service, oil and filter change. Not used garage for a while as I had been using a mobile specialist for the last few years. Dropped car off at 8am and was told to expect it ready after lunch. At 5:30 the garage phoned to tell me they had drained the battery trying to start the car after changing the fuel filter. I knew then my car was in the wrong hands but was pretty helpless to do much other than trust they would get it sorted. 7:30pm garage phoned to say it was all sorted without much of an explanation other than it was a “ nightmare “. Doesn’t look like they will get my business again. Will find out in the morning how much it has cost me to have my car abused

Hope they know about the nipple on the bottom of the oil filter and I would be asking exactly what oil they have put in. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

As M3DPO says I would be having a look in the filter housing to see if they haven't crushed the filter

But did they know how to fit filter? I would take off the filter cover and check the filter is not crushed before driving it. You can reuse the filter, just separate from housing insert into engine block seating the nipple in the hole and then screw the housing down. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Collected car this morning. All seemed ok. Spoke to mechanic who was apologetic and didn’t charge a ridiculous amount. I may give him the benefit of the doubt before naming and shaming. I’ll put it down to him having a bad day, I know from experience it does happen.

People talking above about the oil filter fitting when you said it was the fuel filter that caused them to flatten battery.
Guess if they left doors open and had to keep cranking to get fuel through it wouldn't take long to flatten a battery that's maybe not in tip top condition.
It happens - their workmanship could well be absolutely fine. No massive need to panic Today is the oldest you've been and the youngest you'll ever be again.

Cranking is not required to get the fuel through, just ignition on and off a few times and the prime cycle on the pump will fill the filter and build pressure at the rail...
That said, everyone does indeed have bad days, and a Disco loves to drain it's battery given a chance... Maya Gold MY05 HSE, Duratracs, RLD Sump Guard, RLD CB Aerial Mount/AE6110, RLD Spare Anti Theft, Altox FBH Remote, T-Maxx Split Charging System, Rear Power Panel, Rock Sliders...

...the point we were all making is that if the garage didn’t have much experience with the disco (which could be the case given the “nightmare”), you’d want to make sure they fitted the oil filter correctly - there are reports on here of garages not doing so, with catastrophic consequences. 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +
