Side Protection Tubes

Hi Guys,

Couple of questions:

1. Do the LR OEM side protection tubes offer any protection, in particular off-road, or are they purely cosmetic?

2. Do they mount in the same way or at the same points as side steps? I.e., are they a straight swap?

3. Are they necessary?

Sorry that was three questions. Embarassed D3 HSE V8...
