Well I've had 5 of their finest and not had a shut line issue ...maybe I'm lucky
Then again ...when you look back at the thousands of threads on this site I can only find a half a page of search results where "shutlines" or "shut lines" are presented as an issue. It's obviously another non issue for the vast majority 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yes but they have stopped making the Defender now.

My DS drivers door was slightly out and the tailgate on this one has to be slammed to shut it, it's been tweaked by dealer and seems a bit better but my other 6 LRs have been fine.
It doesn't put me off but it's something I would like to see improve.

maybe they're using the same technique as they did on the defender

So my understanding is that the door may shut beautifully and 'seat home' just as it should with a satisfying thud/clunk but then you get an uneven gap round the door/tailgate/boot/bonnet. This is the issue JLR have that other manufacturers don't have. It's a manufacturing problem that just shouldn't exist on a vehicle in this category.....

JLR are working on getting smaller shut lines across the whole range. Its not an easy task. Why anyone is obsessed with small shut lines ill never know, i just like nice clean lines simple. I don't want it all to be seamless, i just want top quality

I think the difference between weight saving and shut lines may be slightly more

I'm not overly bothered about neat shut lines, as long as the doors open and close properly and don't leak etc.
I had the exact same issue with the tailgate on my last two D4's (MY14 & MY15). As I said earlier, some people might just think that you have to really slam the tailgate to shut it and never realise that's not the case. It's only because the tailgates on MY06 and MY10 D3 & D4 were aligned properly, that I knew this wasn't the case. I don't think, I posted about it at the time, at least I can't remember doing so. I didn't think it was worth mentioning.
I also noticed it on one of the two MY15 HSE's that I was lent recently, when the front discs and then finally the hubs were being replaced on my D4. So it's clearly a common issue, albeit one that maybe doesn't get reported always. Unless, of course I had the only three D4's with this issue. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I have this on my RRS2 and I have looked at it closely. It's not the tailgate. The number plate frame slips on one side. Visually, it's awful. I've seen it on other makes of car. The frame needs to be fixed properly.
Now, the two front doors and the rear tailgate on our new D4 were grossly misaligned when it was delivered. The tailgate still isn't quite right - I'll have to take it back to the dealer again or post a "how to" question on here and try a DIY fix.
