Here you go, it's a few years old but the technique still carries.

Good grief! I don't know even know what make of junk he's working on there. Any ideas? I'm guessing that it's Dacia. The idea of buying a substandard Renault didn't hear thinking about even before seeing this! Never seen anything like that in a modern UK plant though.

Now, the two front doors and the rear tailgate on our new D4 were grossly misaligned when it was delivered. The tailgate still isn't quite right - I'll have to take it back to the dealer again or post a "how to" question on here and try a DIY fix.

Pretty poor (IMO) Laughing

Take it back to the dealer and get them to rectify it.

Let's hope LR get their quality control sorted soon. Whilst it's a crude procedure, at least in the Renault/Dacia video someone is actually checking that the doors actually fit and doing something about it if they don't.

JLR are working on getting smaller shut lines across the whole range.....

are you involved in the manufacturer in sone way at the Liverpool plant ?

not an easy task.

maybe not easy but not impossible...way back in the 60's & 70's even moderate priced cars had shut lines far more consistent then some quite costly cars on sale right now

anyone is obsessed with small shut lines ill never know...

no obsessed but unequal gaps just dont look right....shoddy manufacture.

I just like nice clean lines simple. I don't want it all to be seamless

clean lines means as small as practicable shut lines & panels that fit

just want top quality

I would ask if you could define "Top Quality".......to me its a conformance to a defined specification or what the customer demands or expects...car manufacture is volume process of a commodity we pay a lot for & most revere their cars..."I just like clean lines" - so guess you want what the designer intended...it can be done without being created by a coach builder...

My D3 has a tailgate shut line that is wider than normal & couldn't be "fixed"...I did question it at at time of car handover
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Top quality to me certainly isn't the D4, its good but it can be so much better. I expect a car in the price range and also manufacture to make me feel special. I certainly expect a boot to close without having to slam it.
