Signs of worn out shock absorbers and steering issues |
|
Have any of you had any issues with the shocks/steering?
I am getting seriously sea sick in it. If I go over a bump, the rear continues to bounce a second time. Its worse when loaded, its very apparent at night, as you can see the lights go up and down after going over the bump.
My steering seems to be much heavier lately (not sure if its related)
I am not sure if my shocks are worn out or the air suspension is faulty, LR Bedfordview does not test them so does any one know where to take it to get tested.
It seems odd as I only have done 65K km. Disco 2 V8

That's about spot-on the kms that I've realised the shocks in my 2 D2s were overdue for replacement.

Yes - Baben first identified the problem - as it seems shocks gradually deteriorates and driving the vehicle every day you do not notice it that easily. After swopping vehicles Baben returned mine looking rather sea-sick - so I realised the shocks were shot. 3 LR Dealers drove the vehicle and reckoned nothing was wrong. Midrand immediately identified worn shocks and worn lower front suspension bushes (which, btw, I am having replaced AGAIN on Monday)
So - reading your post if sounds as if your shocks are definitely gone. I have not heard of any place that can test D3 shocks.
The heavy steering can probably be related to worn bushes - do you get a lot of steering "feed-back" on dirt roads ? Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

Thanks guys I will make a booking @ midrand nextweek.
I cant recall any steering feedback on dirt road, but definatly sea sick after a few minutes on any slightly bumpy road.

May be a long shot, but could the poor ride be down to stuck/obstructed counter balance weights at the rear? I know from experience they can get stuck on the tow bar wiring or a build up of mud, the effects are quite noticable.

you should check the "dogs dangles" as matty says
and if shocks are the issue, PM SeanK - he just had Bilstein's fitted.
They look huge, and the vehicle drives really great, tested it myself

@Rev - you still experiencing these issues? Did you figure anything out?
I have something similar, I think. When at high speeds, and hit a bump on the freeway, my rear end gets bouncy at the right rear corner...
