The EGR pipe is situated behind the throttle butterfly (induction side), so there will be some suction there at idle as the closed butterfly forces the engine to draw in the gasses from the EGR.
Depending on accelerator position, for the most part the butterfly is either fully closed or fully open, and the main reason for it being there is to force the EGR gasses into the intake stream.

Well I can’t get the pipe to inlet off the egrs I’m going to have to take it in to local garage as I’ve not got enough time do it myself 😕. My only other fault could be the map sensor. As I tested with brake cleaner around all the air junctions and intercooler nothing changed with engine note. I wonder if a better code reader could isolate. At present I get the usual code of turbo boost.

What's the problem with removing the EGR pipes? There's two m6 bolts/nuts at either end and the clamp on the TB cover! 1/4" drive ratchet and extn should suffice unless it's seized in the EGR's, in which case a bit of carefully directed heat will free them.

What diagnostic tool are you using?

Hi prof. I’m using a fox well nt510. It has the landrover options installed. Which means I can most things.
I ordered a 3/8” docket to remove egr cb pipe and my local tuning garage will charge £120 for ecu remap. If I need it but can’t remember from what engine number it will need it. Mine is a 2008 model

I would try and get better diagnostics on it before proceeding. You will need a ECU patch (chassis 7A onwards) to prevent the EML coming on once the EGR mod is done.

It should be possible with a decent diagnostic tool and good live values to see what's going on during a test drive. I wouldn't let anyone remap the ECU unless they are an LR independent specialist with lot's of experience in these engines.

Try better diagnostics first!

Well finally the mystery is solved I blanked egr off sent it for the ecu reprogrammed. Which they did and took for test drive still smoked so for free the put smoke generator in inlet low and behold I have cracked inlet manifold.
This is not an Indy lr garage but local garage with top blokes. Gunnislake garage in Cornwall. Afraid due to time constraints I’m getting them to replace both inlets whilst it’s off the road. Now to go get the quote off them gulp

I'm surprised the brake cleaner didn't find that crack, oh well at least you know now where the problem lies. Thanks for posting back. Thumbs Up

They said and logically so because it was being pushed out the cracks nothing was inducted so cleaner wouldn’t make any difference. They are sending me the video I will upload once I have it. Not looking forward to the quote can tell you as it’s 8hrs labour.

It's far from an exact science, but at idle speed there is little pressure from the turbo and so it should work. I've done a few that way with results Thumbs Up

Would you not tackle it yourself? It's a bit involved but not difficult!

I would but don’t have workshop/garage so weather makes it difficult. Although I would if it was summer as I’d take leave from the jail as I can’t reckon do it in a day
