Only had it 2 weeks so not modified anything myself yet - collected and drove it down from Edinburgh to Cambridgeshire with no sign of smoke. I've then been fairly gentle with it since trying to see what mpg I can get so your comment about "clearing the tubes" made me think - still shouldn't do that surely?

If driven gently for a while, and then "booted" you might get some smoke. Mine rarely seems to these days, but prior to having the turbo drain modification, it seemed to leave a real cloud of smoke most times when I had to set off quickly. Quite embarrassing at times.

Was the turbo drain mod a main dealer or an independent affair? Mine is in to a main dealer this Friday under extended warranty to look at smoke, rear passenger lock and reprogrammed for tow electrics so chance to get it sorted maybe.

Been into the main dealer on Friday, who "cleaned out the system". This has improved but not cured the problem. He wasn't aware of TSB LTB00487v3 Excessive Exhaust Smoke but he looked it up and my D4 is booked in again this Thursday

Hey NotLob,
Did the turbo drain hose fix your problem with smoke? I have the same problem. It is not there all the time but if I haven't booted it for a while, it is easy to recreate. If I've been doing a lot of town driving it seems that the smoke the next time I boot it is quite significant.
It's been into the local dealers (who have been generally good) who fired a new turbo actuator which didn't resolve the problem. I pointed them at the TSB mentioned above but they were reluctant to fit the revised drain pipe in case it didn't fix it. They said of that was the cause, I would see smoke at start up. I don't get any then. They have asked for more time with the car which I don't mind but I wondered if others had this problem without smoke at startup?
I've just had the car serviced about 4 weeks ago and I am definitely using oil.
I don't understand why this would just start happening either?
Can anyone give me any advice?

Hi
I initially had similar reluctance from my local main dealer. You could hear the sigh when I said "I've been on the internet and here's the TSB to sort it", so initially they just wanted to drain and clean all the pipes out. At first they said that had fixed it but an hour before I was due to pick it up they called to say "ah, we've taken it for the test drive...and it smoked like the Bismark again...so we're going to fit the modification the TSB suggests"
They fitted it, I've done 2,500 miles to the south of France and back with a trailer tent in tow...and so far, fingers crossed, touch wood etc etc...no smoke on kick down or start up.
Good luck
