Snorkels

Hi

Looking to get a raised air intake in the next few weeks as one of my first mods. How easy are they to fit ? Can a car retard like myself do it ? or would it be better to let a professional fit it ?

Thanks

Rob

A Snorkel, as in the Safari one is a intense fit, lots of bits and lots of removals and relocatings. But can be done if you are competant enough.

The Raised air intake is much less involved, simply remove the air grill, offer up the frame on the wing, and drill holes in wings and A pillar.

Difference between the Safari and RAI (LR oem), is the Safari is water proof, the LR one just gets the air from higher up to stop polutants like dust etc, you can do a little more to make it splash proof, but never fully water proof.

Mine was done IN A PUB CAR PARK IN THE DARK Shocked , with help of some very nice chaps who knew what they were doing Thumbs Up

i fitted mine on the drive with little more than a few tools and a couple of drill bits, do not be tempted to oversize the drill bit for the main mounts as the grubs that the bolts fit into are a tight fit, just tap them in with a soft faced hammer, they need to grip the wing tight. If you want to make it more water proof use clear silicon sealant around the vent area, But dont take this as fully water tight Thumbs Up

Another top tip.... is measure 50 times then drill once Thumbs Up

Thats what I was thinking. You need to expand the back of the riv nut with a proper tool or use a bolt with a couple of nuts and compress the sleeve.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Mine got fitted just by positive thought!....I closed my eyes, concentrated, and only opened them after TFC gave the all clear Mr. Green

The thing with the full blown snorkel is I'm sure the rest of the car will have died (i.e. electrics, CPU etc) if you're deep enough, long enough, for the normal RAI to have failed.
