Has anyone used their D3 with Snow chains? I don't know why I remember seeing somewhere (I think in the owners manual) not to use snow chains with the D3 or with the HSE 18inch tyres! Can anyone advise and what type to use? 2017 Disco5 First Edition(On Order)

Hi
I'm going Skiing in Andorra after Xmas and I know some places are prohibited without snow chains!
Would be interested in answers on this subject
Landrover ones are very very expensive

SNOW CHAINS
Snow chains are designed for use on
hard-surface roads in extreme snow conditions
only, and are not recommended for off-road
use. If it is necessary to fit snow chains to your
vehicle, ALWAYS observe the following:
• Front wheels: Snow chains can only be
fitted to the front wheels of vehicles
equipped with 17 or 18 inch wheels.
• Rear wheels: Snow chains MUST NOT be
fitted to the rear wheels of any vehicle.
• Snow chains MUST NOT be fitted to a
temporary spare wheel.
• ONLY Land Rover approved chains should
be used. These are designed for your
vehicle and will eliminate any risk of
damage to other components. Approved
snow chains are only available from a Land
Rover Dealer/Authorised Repairer.
• Always adhere to the snow chain fitting and
retensioning instructions and the speed
limitations recommended for varying road
conditions. NEVER exceed 50 km/h
(30mph).
• ONLY fit snow chains in pairs.
• Avoid tyre damage by removing the chains
as soon as the road is free from snow.
• In some driving conditions, it may be
beneficial to deactivate DSC in order to
maximise traction.
WARNING
DO NOT fit unapproved snow chains - this
could damage tyres, wheels, suspension and
brake components and could result in damage
to the bodywork of the vehicle.

Simon, vineyards are fine but keeping me away from Disco3 site. Excellent harvest, but you would expect me to say that! How is Apple?
Does the manual say anything about my HSE 19inch tyres? I would go and look but my wife has the car!!!!!!!!! 2017 Disco5 First Edition(On Order)

Apple's cool... busy too.
Not sure. I have an 'S'  Don't think so though unless I missed it. Only thing i can find is that the Temp Spare must never be fitted with chains.
255/55 R19 H or V - All terrain tyre chains to be fitted to fronts only as with all sizes.

The LR snow chains are about £378 for a pair, it may be cheaper to rent a pair. Try the roofbox.co.uk site about this.
We are heading down to France shortly and have been warned that the French police are keen to check UK cars (what a surprise). The alternative is to carry a pair even though they won't fit. They never ask to check that they will fit, just that you have them.

If you think the size is not correct I have been told that quote
You would have to use the KIT460 and take up the 10mm excess by wrapping the small chain around the main chain twice. If you look at the picture attachment you will see the chain linked between B, C AND D. I have them in stock but can’t deliver now until just after Christmas.

Think you could warrent the soubriquet "Nice Work Nick", there.
I'm loathe to spend nigh on £400 the LR ones for the rare occasion when chains would get me home, when £50 would do. Other than the warranty issue of non-LR chains, is the difference in the construction, ease of attachment/removal and contribution to the dealer-principal's pension fund? Uh ? Snow chains are NEVER mandatory outside certain mountainous areas in France...
The only thing that can happen to you is for some police to decide that YOU need to use those to reach a certain ski resort, have you park in a parking place and fit those snow chains to your tyre...
If no snw chains, then they can refuse you accessing that road for fear you might block it or they could have you wait for the snowtruck...
On most roads snowchain are even prohibited... There are also strict rules regarding snow tyres (The one fitted with small metallic pieces...).
As for the british car being checked more often than other... That might come from the fact that the cannonball races have left certain bad memories...

You have just livened up my last surgery before travelling down to Franc! I bow to your "local" knowledge. We often go down to Montalbert, near La Plagne, and were aware of some owners in our complex being stopped and checked eg carrying bulbs, high visibility tabard, triangle, fire extinguisher and chains. The road up to the village does have a compulsory chain sign ( that I fully accept is local to that road).
I have no problems with being fully prepared as the geography and weather are more extreme than UK, but is does get a tadge wearing when its the UK cars that get checked.
However fantastic area, great snow, great local people and most of us come prepared.

Don't worry about "local" cars being exempt... The tradition is that the judgement whether or not a car should have its snow chain on is vested in the Policeman or the Gendarme...
If you don't have "local" plates (The last two digits in France indicates where you come from...) then you can expect to get stopped and be required to use those snow chains whereas a local might be exempt... After all he does live here and should know the hasard... And that is so despite the fact that one might be born there and live in Paris whereas the other might have local plates and moved there a few months ago !
But then whoever said that law had to make sense...
