Been doing St Gervais and Les Contamines for the last 10 years, usually a couple of times each season, but not managed to actually do a full season yet. It'll happen I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Thanks GrenobleLandy, yes I think you`re right, big drive on MTR`s or AT2`s beforehand so I`ll get some chains. Anyone up for loaning me a set for a week in exchange for beer tokens?
Cider tokens ? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

If all else fails you can rent them from "slush'n'rubble....
ND, if you want to do a season, and assuming you're into backcountry lark..recommend st anton over chamonix as there's less testosterone and more quality snow.
although there is something about chamonix, ah yes, pascal the heli pilot,,, youtube him... one wife.......livid
Jet Jockey, drop me a pm with your phone number and I'll see if I can meet up with you on Friday to drop off the chains I've got in the car. I figure if it gets bad enough over here for me to need chains as well as the winter tyres I've got on, it's time to get the Jetboil out and ring the Mrs to come and get me in her 90
All I ask in return is that you click the link at the bottom of my posts and sponsor me and the rest of team Disco3 taking part in the Help4Heroes rally next year I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

No need for cider - I have a barrel at home but would happily accept a modest donation/sponsorship for the Disco3 Help for Heroes rally team
Look forward to hearing from you

...interested to see how you get on JP
I ummed and arghed intially but didn't take snow chains in the D3 first time to the Alps and haven't since. Never yet had a problem yet.......although I am the sort who would probably park the D3 and walk if conditions needed snow chains. It is holiday so no bravado
Make sure you do try it in the snow somewhere safe though, it is awesome 8)end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Dont get me wrong - the D3 with snow tyres / low range / slippery prog, is unstoppable (almost)... Just that only an idiot would drive it with worn out scorpions on icy slopes in front of hordes of passers by just so they can see what a muppet 4x4 driver really looks like.... Well, got back midnight yesterday after our trip to Tignes.I am just in awe at the cars ability. All year it tends to be the bus on the school run and shopping trips and then, once a year, it becomes a continental cruiser loaded with the family and luggage for 600 miles through France quite happily cruising at 95 (sometimes a bit more) on the peage, and when you get to heavy snow and ice in the mountains, thats tricky even walking on, it takes it in its stride and gets the job done. Im just amazed.....
Only minor problem was that b d fuse 11!!!!!! .Great fun changing that in the dark when its minus 12.
And how is it you can cover 600 miles on the continent and only see 3 speed cameras????????
Anyway fantastic trip, fantastic car.Just Awesome."I went to the Isle of Wight and it was " Gene Hunt 02/04/10
