Somtimes a rocket & sometimes a snail

My 56 plate auto D3 sometimes is very responsive, overtaking etc not a problem, other times I put my foot down and it goes no where.

An example : On my way to work I go up a hill/incline, if I am doing 55/60mph & put my foot down to accelerate, there is no kick down of the gearbox and no acceleration.

If I manually change down a gear, the rev counter goes up but she still does not accelerate.

As soon as I get on the flat she picks up, sometimes very quick and other times she just plods.

The same can be said for if I go to accelerate on the flat, sometimes she flies and other times she crawls.

I have been back to the dealer for them to check it out, but everytime I do, she is ok and is responsive Big Cry

Anybody got any ideas if there is something wrong or is this just another feature of the D3.

By the way an L/R assist engineer has diagnosed her with a lazy gearbox, could this be the issue?

Any help greatly appreciated

Is there ANY soot, or more than usual Question

You coud have a Split or delaminating Intercooler hose, its the top one just in front of the Oil filler cap and usually splits on the bend at the back.

If thats ok then you might need to find somebody near you with a faultmate, or a dealer to read codes. It might be the EGR's but they get blamed for eveything.

I assume you have no messages on the dash like "i Enginge system fault", that can lead to a faulty turbo.

Not heard this before. The transmissions are adaptive, they learn your driving style. Perhaps a reset which someone will come along today and tell you how to do it, I think its allowing the D3 to sleep and then disconnect the Battrey, but dont quote me on that.

Morning Mac,

When she does accelerate I have noticed that there is a huge dark cloud behind me, only noticed this recently due to the cars behind me having there lights on.

The EGR valves where replaced about 6000 miles ago & the dealer has re-cheked them, all ok.

After doing some searches on the forum, I am planning on checking the intercooler pipe today.

Just rememberd that if I put my foot down to the floor to accelerate, when I ease off I hear what can only be described as a sucking back noise.

Will check the intercooler pipe today and report back, cheers Mac.

With regards the gearbox,

If you ease of the accelerate and let her slow down under her own steam she will stay in the same gear, but then when you go to accelerate again she will select the correct gear, i.e. 2nd or 3rd, this will then be followed by a clunk from under the car, not sure if gearbox (as per the L/R assist engineer) or driveshaft etc.

This only happens when you have slowed down and she needs to select a lower gear when you accelerate, if you manually slow her down using the gear box she does not clunk when you go to accelerate, as she is already in the correct gear.

Check the Intercooler pipe, and sucking whooshing noise can normally be that. Once that is replaced it may cure some of the Gearbox lag..

How much of a clunk do you get on kickdown?

Had intercooler pipe off and checked it, all seems ok.

Put it back on and took it for a spin, feels worse if anything. Still get the suction noice after hard acceleration, the turbo lag is terrible.

Think it is because I am looking for it more, eased off the accelerator on approach to a junction, saw that it was clear so accelerated, it took about 2 seconds before it started to accelerate again.

The clunk is loud enough to be heard over the radio with the volume set at 10.

Has anybody got a guide on changing the intercooler pipes.

Mine is showing all the symptons of a split intercooler pipe, but I cant see a split.

So I have decided to change for uprated hoses, but unsure on the exact peices to take off. I dont want to take half the car to bits, to find out there is an easy way.

Also which replacemaent pipes are best.
I see bell autos do a replacement pipe, but Alive replacement is 3 pipes?

P.S. grzesiul, cheers but I wont be needing the pipe.

Have replaced the intercooler pipe curtiousy of Alive, for a nice samco one. Also EGR bypass carried, again by Gary & the team at Alive. Thumbs Up

Couldn't replicate the noise while up at Alive due to too much snow.

Got chance today to test proparly if this had resolved my noise issue.

Guess what, still the same, Big Cry it is going into the dealer on Tuesday for 4 days for them to investigate & hopefully resolve the issue.

At least it goes like a rocket now all the time, only because while at Alive, Gary re-mapped it for me. the mid range pull is awesome.

Back to my noise, anybody got any more ideas on what it could be?

The noise is not all the time, I mainly notice it when accelerating up a hill from a low speed.

For example I live on a slite incline which is a tight bend, so you have to slow down to about 10mph to turn. When I turn, then accelerate & ease off I get the noise.

When on the flat I can accelerate as hard as I can, but when I ease off I dont get the noise.

Went into dealer today for the wooooshing noise.

They diagnosed faulty EGR valves, but when they realised I have got a bypass kit, they are stumpted as to what the noise is & where the noise is coming from.

Especially as it only happens under heavy load, i.e. going up hill & the computer cant pick anything up.

They then announced that to investigate further will cost me £84 + vat/hour, oh and they want it for a week.

They also informed me that my warranty is now void as I have modded the engine & any work now or in the future is not covered. I said, rubbish or words to that effect as this has been happening for months, they are aware of this as it has been back 4 times for them to invesigate, yet the bypass kit has ben in place for one week.
So as far as I am concerned the issue is historic and should therefore be covered under the warranty.

Meeting tomorrow to discuss the way forward.
