Auto here yes, difficult to say where it's from Mark Confused

Worth a look though, but it does sound like boost pressure escaping , had similar on a defender TDI, it was a loose pipe, but not on the D3

Mine does too - though it seems to have reduced in volume on mine recently - must have a look and see if I can find a reason for it. Turbo boost is certainly fine Thumbs Up

Here's a couple of shots of the bit I mean - by the dipstick.

Guys, is there a possibility that someone records the noise, so that we are all sure we are talking about the same thing? And could this then be uploaded here????
(I would do it if i wasnt computer illiterate......)

Hi Broma,

Can you expand why you suggest it's the gearbox & what on the gearbox is causing it?

I have had a similar noise for the time I've owned the vehicle. I presume it to be gearbox / drivetrain related from other posts on the forum, but not sure why. It's never got worse, but i'm interested to know what causes it.

Ditto.

I have a ‘noise’ that’s been attributed to the torque converter.

I’ve always thought ‘turbo’, but .....

Torque converter is another option for the hissing, though I don't know why. Mines original at 140k and being nursed with Dr Tranny.

Did anyone else get to the bottom of this whooshing noise as I had it and found it was the seals folded of the throttle body to inlet manifolds. Update...... still got it and I’ve changed the small charger hose to turbo and all jubilees so thinking IC is cracked
