Spare Wheel

Silly question time....

Space saver spare - is it the same rim size on all cars or does it match your 4 "main" wheels ?

ie 17" rims, 17" spare 18" with !8 etc

would imagine that it matches whatever is fitted else you'd experience odd handling / safety issues.

The space saver is a steel wheel (not sure what size) and is the same size no matter what the size the alloys are.

All the factory-fit D3 tyres (in common with most cars) have more or less the same rolling radius (within a few %) no matter what the size of the wheel - this includes the space saver.

The reason space savers are "speed limited" is because they are much narrower than a full sized wheel, and so the traction and grip available from the space saver is greatly reduced.

Not quite true Simon...I've run with a space saver on the nearside rear, a 19" with MTR on the front nearside and 2 x 18" with scorpions on the offside. Didn't feel any different to normal handling... though I had to keep it below 50mph because of the S\S.

How many different answers ?????

If it helps, mine came with Factory 17! alloys and a factory space saver 17".

I'm aware of rolling diameters and independent suspension - which effectively will more than cope with diameter differences, I'm aware too of contact area difference (although you would be surprised at how little difference it makes) just need to have my story straight when car goes for first tyres and my upgrades get spotted 8) !!!!

When I got my car I thought that the spacesaver spare was the wrong one, as it was a 19" rim and the car was on 18" rims. If you compare the overall diameter however, they are the same.
