Spare Wheel Security.

I see (in the Disco5 forum, "DISCO5.CO.UK General N071 - Loss of Spare Wheel") that LR have upgraded the security on all new and existing D5s.
Perhaps this upgrade should also apply to all Discoveries (3 and 4) which also share this weakness.

I don't think LR's priority will include anything to do with the Disco 3after all these years.
I've got an RLD plate fitted to mine

A snowball would stand a better chance of a long weekend in hell than LR actually doing anything re this, or many other more serious flaws. They might help customers with D5s but won't be interested in previous models. Thumbs Up

This is a coincidence. I am new to D3, so in my interest and in my enthusiasm I removed the spare wheel today, just to see how it was done. My first thought was.....hope I don't have to change a wheel whilst on my way to a Buckingham Palace garden party. I was in my clean garage lying on the floor trying to get that tee piece out of the wheel (on the end of the cable).
So having learned that today.........what is all this security issues mentioned on this thread, would some king soul explain it to me..........thanks.

If you're parked up somewhere where peeps like to nick wheels (airport parking, shopping centres, station car parks, etc) a van pulls up behind your car, the thief nips out and lies under your car, cuts your spare cable, wheel is gone. All in less than the time it takes to pour a decent sized beer. Then you've got to replace the wheel, tyre and winch. Get an RLD plate if you want to avoid that. Thumbs Up

Or just cut the cable for the hell of it as they've gone to the hassle of crawling under your car for nothing. Whistle

Spare wheel protector

Ordered mine from Uncle Ray on Sunday evening and it arrived on Tuesday morning. Now fitted and can sleep peacefully knowing this superbly engineered piece of kit will ensure my spare wheel stays where it is meant to be!
