Splicing in new connector block - Tutorial?

Hi

I have bought a new connector block for the front left height sensor from the shop here. It has three wires already attached in the right places. Are there any tutorials out there for how to make a proper job of splicing the new wires to the old? I'm particularly thinking of making sure it's fully water tight etc.

Thanks for any advice.

Adri

My suggestion would be to solder the wires and add heat shrink. There is a special grease you can apply to the soldered joint prior to heat shrinking which makes it totally waterproof.

If I got one of these sets would that be good enough or does it need to be a higher quality heat shrink?

This type of waterproof crimp connector is ideal for the job

The LR repair kit uses either solder sleeves or butt crimps (can't tell which), and heatshrink to go over the top.

A better repair is a soldered joint, with heatshrink over the top. Two layers of heat shrink even better Smile

Butt crimps in original kit:

Solder sleeves or soldered joint with heatshrink over the top would be better than these.

So if I go for the soldered joint and then heatshrink it would the ebay heatshrink in the above post be good enough quality? Don't want to spoil the ship for a hapeth of tar...

Cheers

Don't know the quality of that kit, lots of the cheap stuff is very thin.

Toolstation do rolls of really good quality tube in various sizes. I think it's 2:1 ratio so the 2.4mm would be right here, although it might be tight to get two layers on:
