Spongy brakes

So I've now got 1000 miles on my disco (and one Nissan Sunny lol), and a few things about the car are starting to get my attention.

Most noticeable is the spongy feel to the brake pedal, which significantly firms up if I give it a few pumps. Is this common? On my motorcycles it would lead me to consided higher duty braided brake lines, can anything b done on the Disco?

Get it down to your dealer and get them to sort it out. I've driven 5 different D3s now (demos, LRE and mine) not one of them has had spongy brakes. They're probably the best brakes I've ever had on a vehicle, when you consider they've got to stop 2.7 tonnes they need to be good.

Unfortunately it sounds like you've got a problem, it may be as simple as air trapped in the system but it's definately something the dealer should be sorting out

If you can firm up the pedal by pumping it, then something is wrong - maybe with your master cylinder.

I would get it in asap as has been said I find the D3 brakes to be the best I have used in any vehicle.

The brakes are excellent, if you push too hard you really know about it as the car just pulls-up.

Actually 'stamped' on the brakes the other day due to someone pulling out infront of me (as if you can miss seeing a D3 coming down the road at you), and got serious complaints from everyone in the vehicle for braking so hard - still probably less serious than I'd have got if I'd wiped out the other car (and I mean it would have been wiped out as it was on a main road and it would have suffered greatly if we'd met).

So I concure with everyone else and suggest you see if your dealer will take a look tomorrow before you go too much further. If you're sat on thier fore-court as they open I expect they will take notice of you Very Happy

Thats definately different then. If I stamp on the brake I cruise gently to a stop in about 150 yards collecting obstacles on the way. So thats not normal eh.....

Yep the brakes are excellent!
Had to do a emergency stop the other day, car just came out in front of me! Well it's not as though the D3 is hard to miss.
Really thought I was going to hit it but the car just stooped, very impressive!

Ditto. Stuff in the back goes airborne when I touch my brakes. Took a lot of getting used to from my last truck.
