Starter switch hard to operate
Had this problem before and dealer said it was likely due to low battery charge??????
Happening again so thought I'd check battery first - reading 12.5V and very cold here so I think that shows it is pretty well at full charge.
So has anyone else had a problem with having to press starter switch very hard to get it to operate? At times I really wonder whether I'm going to be able to get started.
Cheers in advance.

The button is just a simple button with very little travel before contact is made. Are you saying that you have to press it hard before you feel it move???
Or are you saying you have to hold it in for a long time before the press is recognised?
Or do you mean that after pressing it it takes ages for the vehicle to crank?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Have to hold in for long time before press is recognised. Almost as if contacts could be dirty??

I can press mine for less than a second with my foot on the brake before starting to put my seatbelt on. When it is cold I can have my seatbelt on before it has started.
Are you sure you are not mistaking the pause to heat the glowplugs as a fault?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
Mines as above, have to hold it to get the ignition on, then the Glow Plug delay, a quick press achieves nothing.

I don't need to hold mine in until it starts, just long enough for the press to be recognised which takes no time at all. When the plugs need warming my left hand is free to do other stuff and the car automatically cranks when it is ready to do so. I didn't think it changes between model years either but I'll do some checking.
HOODIE, is the delay the same when you are just turning the car on without trying to crank it?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Mine seems to work the same as Robbie's IE get in, put foot on brake, press button and release straight away - short pause whilst glow plugs warm up then engine starts Cheers Ian

As does mine, hold it till the ignition comes on, then release it, it will start then when it's ready
Perhaps I'll try a quick push....I'm sure the dealer said to hold it in until it started Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

I have a D3 but the various Loan cars I have had D4, RR, & Freelander have all just needed a momentary push to start

Pre Christmas get together this afternoon so I'll have a play tomorrow and let you know what happens i.e. quick push/long push/foot on brake/no foot on brake.

No foot on brake will just turn the power on. Foot on brake to get the engine started.
I only have to give it a firm push and then release and the car starts right away. Never had to hold it in until the engine starts.People tell me my car at 3L is not good for the environment but the other 6 engines I look after are 78L and nobody complains about them.
