On seperate issue anyone know any way to have aux power outlet in boot permanently on (i.e not only with ignition on)?
Sorry, you'd need to rewire it to an always-on circuit. There is no magic switch.

Is it a problem? It only rattles in some off-road circumstances, which I thought was expectable, as long as it doesn't get worse. So do you mean they can get rid of it?

The dealer told me it was a weak universal joint in the steering. Some rattle is fine but on mine it rattles on the slightest rough road. We will see if the new column is any better.

Mine was the same - it would rattle if you showed it an uneven road. LR have released a service bulletin and part of it suggests replacing the lower steering column which replaces the 'weak' universal joint. I had mine done and initially it completely cured the problem but now 1000 miles later it is coming back! Oh well back to the dealership I guess......................

Guys,

Mine does this off road, and I too took it to be acceptable, as it is not present on road.

Also as you know I did the Eastnor LRE last weekend, on that off road course it was really noticable.

We asked our instructor, who said it was normal.

It is down to the design of the steering linkages that allow for articulation due to the extremes of travel when the air suspension is in off road(raised) mode.

That seems to make sense to me.

Also its quite easy to make the noise repeat itself, by moving the steering a few degress from centre and back when raising or lowering the suspension.

Does everyone agree that this seems to make sense?

Nige.

Sort of, anything will rattle off road, even granny's teeth, but the steering is on a clever linkage and should not rattle at anytime. If it does, it means there is play.

Often new components have a batch of bad units. This is where the reseach could be useful with VIN numbers.

This is a quite rare problem and those of you that do have the rattle don't appear to be able to get rid of it. Is it definately a steering rattle or sounds as if it is coming from the steering or can it be felt up through the steering wheel?

I left my car at the dealer's for a couple of days and one of the things that they fixed was the rattle. I don't think they changed the steering column, and what they did was probably some adjustment, but after a week, the problem hasn't reappeared Smile
