Steering vibration on MY10
any clues please ??
when the car is first started and driven, the steering wheel wobbles from approx. 50mph to 70mph.
after a few minutes of driving the wobble goes away and the steering wheel is fine across all speeds.
ive changed the Brake Discs because they needed doing anyway, balanced the wheels, checked the tyre pressures and have done a basic wheel wobble test to check the wheel bearings.
the Tyres are Grabber ATs and have done about 6K miles.
it seems as if when the tyres warm up the wobble goes away. even if I stop for 10mins , the wobble isn't there when I restart, just there starting from cold.
never had this on the D3. any ideas what it could be before I check it in to the LR Hotel !!
thanks Duncan

See if you can borrow a complete set of wheels and take it from there.

the tyres are wearing perfectly evenly (according to the tyre fitter) , but ive got a set of road tyres in the shed so may have to try a swap and see what they doDuncan

Had the same problem with mine. Chatter from steering 70/80mph, also wanders over white lines, road repairs ect. 20inch GG AT
Swapped wheels diagonally ------ different car to drive. Well pleased. Biggest problem is getting all four wheels off the ground at the same time.

IIRC, the tyres were flat spotting over night when the Disco was parked. After driving for a while and the tyres getting some temperature back in them, the flat spot would go.
I haven't got time, otherwise I'd search out the thread. I'm pretty sure it was GG AT's that were affected though. Of course it might not be the same issue as you are having, but it sounds likely to me.
PS I've got a spare set of 19's with ATR's if you want to borrow them.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Sounds very similar to the problems I am having at the moment with my D4.
The steering wheel does not vibrate straight away, only after about 10 minutes driving, then you can feel it at speeds between 30 and 70 - the vibration gets slightly worse as the speed increases. I had the same problem about 3 months ago and the park brake, rear discs and pads were replaced, now its started again. The tyres have only done approx. 1200 miles since new and the pressures are as per LR's specs.
The D4's going in to the dealers on Tuesday (booked in for a couple of days), will post outcome.
