Stone chipping, is it a problem? |
|
Having chosen Java Black, which is the worse colour available for showing dirt & any mark/chip etc. I was wondering if the front of the D3 was prone to stone chips. Some vehicles are much more prone to stone chips than others, something to do with airflow I guess.
If the D3 is vulnerable I will get a protective film, such as the 3M Paintshield applied.
Many thanks.

I have the Autoglym Lifeshine treatment, which seems to help the paintwork shrug off stones, etc. I have had some chipping on my wheelarches (which a are painted), but these have now been resprayed and a protective film applied... 2005 Disco 3 TDV6 7 seater. Leather, DVD, fully colour-coded.

Thanks, 3M it is then!
I'm also going to have the Permagard paint protection system applied, £180+vat for a new (<1,500 miles) car. Having done a reasonable amount of research, Permagard would appear to be the best system. It takes c.7 hours to apply to a D3.
The simplest way to describe it, is as a thick additional layer of lacquer to the paint.
I'll report back once it has been applied.

I have a few chips after 41000 miles, but not nearly as many as my old D2 had. The D3 does seem to be more resilient.

I haven't noticed too many chips on mine after 12 months and 20,000 miles. Certainly less prone than other motors I've had.
I do apply a thick wax and autoglym coat every three months but otherwise take no other precautions

I had diamondbrite on mine from new and have only picked up one small stonechip in 10000 miles. Scraped the car past bushes on green lanes without a mark, more than can be said of a BMW I had, you only had to look at that and the paint scratched!! Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE
