You could try BA transmissions at keighly in West Yorkshire if it will get that far, I believe they will replace T/C for around £550 -£600 as that's probably the issue, if you go along an A road at a steady speed in 6th with a warm engine do the revs fluctuate .... This is assuming of course you have an auto !

Yes it is auto and I’ve noticed the revs fluctuate. What would you put this down to?

No I’ve not checked the oil is it easy enough to do? And how? Where to check?

Today I’ve been to two local specialists Land Rover garages which have given me two totally different ways to go with work carried out.
After telling them about the judder the first garage got it on the ramp and found there to be a worn prop shaft rubber in a bracket that holds it to the body. He said this would be the problem. I asked him about oil and the torque converter, he didn’t check the oil and insisted that not to touch the gearbox.
The second garage took my land Rover for a drive with me. I told him about the worn rubber with the play. After he’d felt the judder he said the joint wouldn’t cause this and if replaced would never go back the same.
His advice was a flush with a machine they have and new oil. He says has done plenty of these with 100% success with no comeback.
With two different theories to the cause and different advice from two supposedly specialists I don’t know which way to go?!?!??
What do I do next??
Any advice please??

If the transmission has never been flushed it might make sense (= be a good idea) to do it. You don’t describe how many km/miles the vehicle has but I’m assuming quite a lot since it is a 2005.

The rubber bush holding the prop shaft can cause a vibration under acceleration but if your revs are fluctuations to its more likely to be the torque converter
If you’ve never had your gearbox oil flushed I would go with that ! It removes 99% of the oil and replaces it with new oil ask the garage to add a tube of “dr tranny “ to this will stop the judder and hopefully save you a torque converter replacement which will cost £1100-£1500
Landrover says these auto boxes are sealed and the oil should not be changed which is a load of rubbish

I would have the gearbox oil flushed and a tube of Dr Tranny put in if it were mine.
You do need to sort the rear prop as well as that will only get worse and could fail causing all sorts of damage.

I will be having it flushed, with the prop is it correct that a replacement rubber won’t go in as the original?
Does anyone know a recommended garage for flushing near Bolton?

If the prop mounting is coming apart most people seem say go for a replacement prop complete assembly as the unit has had a lot of hammer once the mounting fails so better to replace the U/J and CV as well as the mount/bearing. This can be quite a lot faster than paying someone to do the bearing on its own, so labour will be less but parts cost is much higher. Not sure about the statement about the centre bearing not going back the same way as plenty have done the replacement although there isnt a Genuine LandRover bearing available only aftermarket like the Britpart oneMust stop buying shiny toys....

How much would you be looking at to change the u/j and cv and mount bearing just so I’ve a rough idea what they should be charging?
