Strange happenings, battery?
Hi all, it's been a quiet few months for the old fella. We've moved house and he isn't getting used (made a bloody good removal van though 😂). In fact, I've not put any diesel in since the beginning of August! However, when I do run Barry now he generally will have stood for two weeks or so. Last time he didn't turn over when I pushed the button. The dash lit up, then went blank. Started on the second go, but displayed a "Gearbox Fault" message. Double locked the car, tried again and all was fine. Today, it took five attempts to even turn over. Dash lights up and everything electric comes on, push the starter button, everything goes blank. Fifth attempt he started fine and didn't seem to turn over slower than usual.
I used to run BMWs and I remember if the battery voltage dropped even slightly below a certain level it would drive the electronics bonkers, particularly the auto box.
Also, my MY10 has an AGM battery, which I don't think was standard when it was built. Should I get the indy to check that the car knows it has an AGM battery fitted?
Is it worth fitting a new battery as I have no idea how old this one is, or should I just hook it up to a smart charger/conditioner while he's sitting doing nothing, particularly as the cold weather is imminent?Jaguar Land Rover: "Building great cars, badly."

Replace it as its possibly original and owes you nothing at this stage. A new battery is a good investment yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
if it's AGM I think you are right it's not the original and there is loads of discussion on here about merits of AGM over traditional format batteries … personally , i'm minded to get AGM when I swap mine soon.

Just replaced the battery with a new Exide AGM. What a difference. No hesitation to 'wake up' when the starter button is pressed, revs better from cold, and maybe it's just me but the instruments seem brighter too... 😂
Also bought a NOCO Genius charger from Halfords. Nice sturdy bit of kit, comes with a quick release connector so you can leave the leads on the battery. Should keep everything topped up nicely. Tried it last night on the old battery. After an hour or so it came up with an error message to say the battery wouldn't hold a charge.Jaguar Land Rover: "Building great cars, badly."
