Hi all (again)
Just a question as a prepare to try and do the fan belt, tensioner and idler.
What are the specific tools and sizes I’ll need to remove the fan please? I’ve bought a removal kit pair of spanners. And presuming there will be other normal tools I’ll need?
I ask this as I’m going to try do it first go.
Also what do I clean the pulleys with please? Is a specialist spray ideal? I’ve got a bottle of brake cleaner spray? Or do I just use soapy water and rags? Oldskool.
And also, what can I use to clean the engine a bit while it’s apart? Again as above, what about some engine degreaser spray or something like a jet wash? Or are there too many parts that shouldn’t get wet?

no other tools to remove fan. Just the 2 long tools, and unplug electric connector.
you will need an 8mm socket and ratchet for airpipe removal across the top
WD40 to reinstall pipe.
a small amount of brake cleaner for pulleys on the surfaces, but not get in bearings
and can also be used to clean metal areas of engine

Thanks
While I’m there, is there any way I can locate the oil pump, to check if it’s been upgraded or not to the one that doesn’t snap? See image 1
And image 2 is the fan belt, it has cord exposed on the edges, is this normal or is this a sign of a fault?

Yea normal.
To check the oil pump you need to remove the belt cover. (Many 8mm bolts )
Before you can remove that you need to remove the water pump pulley. Loosen bolts before belt removal !!! 10mm or 13mm bolts
And maybe a belt pulley. 13mm
Take note of belt route. And where pulleys point.
Pictures and stretches
There is a cambelt guide on here. You best read it

If you are going to take a look, also take a look at the date code on the belt, it is wort checking to see if it actually was changed.Must stop buying shiny toys....

Hi does this idler just screw on in this position or does the nipple need to be wound into something internally before tightening please?

Excellent news, the squeak has gone and the belt was changed in about 1.5 hours
Drove it and it seems to be driving as it should. I wasn’t sure if it was boosting as fast, or wether I was being paranoid about the timing being off?
I did have to forcibly rotate the top pulley slightly to fit the viscous fan tool over the 3 bolts.
And to crack the fan bolt anti clock wise, I placed the bolt spanner top end on a breaker bar, on the engine. Which distributed the impact and avoided damage while goving the other big spanner a few whacks with a rubber mallet and it came off ok.
No torque settings on the bolts either I just did them around what it felt like was enough

Hi again
Sorry to be a pain!
Is it normal that the new tensioner and idler pulley wheels weren’t spinning very much?
The old ones spun for about 10 seconds but the brand new ones didn’t spin very well. Just checking it wasn’t a cheap dodgy one!..

Yes its fine, bearings will be a bit tighter and the grease a bit thicker. It wont take long to loosen up

From memory, you can't see the second coolant bleed point with the vanity cover on the engine. The cap in it looks exactly the same as the one on the top of the expansion bottle.
