Strange throttle response

05 Disco TDV6S (Manual) When first starting the car in a morning or after a few hours of not driving, the throttle response feels really sluggish and if you put your foot down when in first gear it goes but nothing like it used to, then of course the turbo kicks in and it takes off.
After 10-20 minutes of driving it feels better. I think the easiest way of describing it is it feels just the same kind of throttle response as when grass, gravel and snow mode is selected. The car is fine and I have been making some long trips for the last few months, it’s a joy to drive over long distances, but this throttle response feeling is quite strange after 3 years and 50,000 miles of pretty much trouble free driving.

Anyone any ideas????

I am no expert on this matter but from what I have read on here, I suggest you do a search on 'EGR valve' as your issue sounds familiar. A clever person on this forum will no doubt be along shortly to give you some spot-on advice. Best of luck.

Dave, mine did something similar for about ten minutes this Friday. Flat as a pancake till 2600rpm, then normal. Then parked for 10mins & the next journey it was all back to normal. Confused

Don't suppose this is much help to you, but my thoughts at the time were "EGR"
Might help if you can post some more info so that those who have had EGR issues can confirm your symptons.

Does the fault clear once the engine is warm?
Is there a particular rev range affected
Does it 'splutter' or just feel 'dead'
Have you tried stopping & restarting the engine (ie 're-booting' the computer)

Sounds like it needs attaching to a diagnostic computer at dealer or perhaps better still TFC

I believe when it is cold the gearbox has a special warm up behaviour. I had the same experience when I was working in Lenzig near the Attersee.

Hi All

I have trtied stopping and restarting and it does just the same.
It does not splutter of sound odd, only that it just has no power until the turbo kicks in, after its warmed up it drives fine, no issues at all.
The only fault I have at the moment is the 'Low Coolant Level' which is I am told a faulty sensor that is built into the bottle, this fault comes and goes and even when its not displayed first thing in the morning the throttle response is still strange. Having said all that I do wonder in the depths of the Disco's electrical system if it changes anything. Confused

From what I have read on here it does sound like an EGR valve problem but not as serious, although is it the start of more serious problems???? Big Cry Big Cry Or signs of a failing EGR valve or valves???? Confused Confused

Yep,

EGR valve needs replacing or blanking off.

Mine failed one week out of warranty and even thought I had bought a 3rd party warranty the dealer fixed it and claimed off landrover as it failed so close to the end of the warranty period.

Thought my EGRs were on the way out with similar symptoms. Dealer did a software upgrade for the variable vanes and is much improved. Idea

Could also be the fuel temp sensor, high oil level, wrong oil (too viscous) loose intercooler / turbo hose, injector on it's way out, brakes binding etc. etc. EGR faults would be evident at all engine temps, not just cold(ish)
As has been said, get a diagnostic run on the vehicle
