Supaguard and Gap Insurance |
|
When we finalised our order yesterday we were sold the LR Superguard paint/trim protection and the Gap Insurance.
Has anyone else got this and if so, what do you think of it?
I wanted the Gap Insurance because i do think its worth every penny, especially if you ever need to use it. However, im not so sure about the paint protection.

I'll be going for GAP insurance on mine and had Superguard on my current car and always thought it made a difference. Didn't get mentioned when ordering the D3 but I might check with the dealer on costs. The only problem I see with it is how good a job they do applying it. The stuff isn't expensive but depending on what you pay can be a bit of a rip off I don't dance but I do Disco

I had the SuperGuard as well. Obviously I can't compare to a 'non-superguarded' disco but the car seems to clean very easily compared to my previous Land Rovers that didn't have this treatment.

I got GAP ins included in my ins policy from NFU - lasts for first two years of vehicle life.
No cost option from NFU.

Depends on the price of each;
for SupaGuard, some people have negotiated a keen price that suggests high margin and some have suspected dealer failings (use of 1 kit for 2 cars)
for the Gap Insurance, you might find it cheaper to have it included in your Vehicle policy.
I coughed up £350 for 3 years Gap at purchase, merely because it was the first time I'd ever bought a new car, and I figured that otherwise it would be quite a % of a vehicle policy over that time. Switching from NFU (Gap included) to Sheila's wheels has saved £200 this year (yes, I appreciate that's not the only difference) . In the same month, a work colleague paid £300 for Gap policy on a people carrier which was half the price. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

NFU prices vary quite a bit.
Some people get good value, my quote was nearly double that of my existing Privilege policy.

We use a guy at work for valleting the bosses cars and I actually saw him doing my motor at the landrover garage before I picked it up, I have seen the Supagard paint protector for sale on ebay for under £5 (the impregnated applicator sponge) and I gave him a ring and he quoted me £50 for cleaning the car and applying the supagard, the only thing is it needs to be applied and left on the vehicle under cover for about 10 or 12 hours before being polished off. So it seems the garage has a nice little mark up on this

I don't mind paying the going rate for a good job. I just don't like paying £350 for someone to wash my car and then polish it off the next day I might give my garage a call and see how much they will charge ... then decide how much I want to pay and go from there. I don't dance but I do Disco

Call NFU in Ludlow... they were nearly half LR Ins and a good £200 less than anyone else I called. They say they use local knowledge rather than the post code lottery that the others use. Our post code os for a large town 15 miles away with a poor rep... but they know my home is no where near there so the rates reflected that.
In fact my dealer recommended them over anyone else too

The dealer are quoting £399 for each but if you take both out at the same time you get the Supaguard for only £200.
The Gap Ins is therefore £399 but it lasts until the car is 3 years old.
Total cost is £599

If you're prepared to make a call or two, why not check the price of a GAP policy direct with the broker? Mine is with Abraxas in Bristol - 01454 616300. After all, you can buy extended warranties direct at about 1/2 the price that Dixons/Currys et al. offer.
(The Jack Benny side of me sees even £200 for a polish as a leg lift - would have thought it ought to be a film application at least, but that's me.) Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

For the sake of £10 from ebay and a bit of your time I would say do it yourself.
Having tried both products I would say that Diamondbrite is longer lasting than Supagard and at £10 if it only lasts a year it's not a disaster.
If you like to keep your paintwork looking A1 you are better off spending £100 on a Zaino kit, it's brilliant stuff.

www.permagard.info/
The above treatment was recommended in evo mag. Harry's 550 had the treatment & very good it looked too.
Only needs washing with water, lasts approx. 1 year, initial cost for a new D3 was £160 (IIRC).
I'm going to get it when I eventually get a D3!
