Maf is air flow from airbox sensor. and the map is on the engine inlet manifold . I know it's a sensor held in with a torque bolt and I've seen the sensing hole blocked with gunk.
I've yet to get at mine but if you do a search on here you will find some info. I've not got my blanks yet so not took my cover off. This is the first time I've had any problems. And done a lot of browsing.

Once it's Clean and egr blanked then it won't get cruddy again.
I was told this by a guy who I bought roof rails from about a year
Ago. He had his from new and had it 7years. He did a fair bit on it
Some being warranty work and some recalls some him self.

Once you get your dr tranny in let me know how your car is because
I do get a bit of judder when I'm on steep hills and I just want my motor
to be right but without spending a fortune on it. I bought this disco
Because I've always wanted one but I didn't think I would have any
problems. Hopefully when I get my egr blanks, clean the map sensor
And get the gear oil flushed and new filter I'm ok for 10 years like my
Old v70. Cheers

Mine feels a perfect when cruising on normal roads and. I do only get the judder when going up very steep hills like 17% upwards. not the likes of motorway hills or stuff you see everyday. And it fluctuates when ever a bit of power is needed to maintain a set speed but that I don't feel in the car. 70 mph fluctuating around 2000 revs

if it smells burnt then you may well be past the preventative maintenance stage
