Go on then, how do the chassis harmonic dampeners affect the suspension or ride, maybe I'm being a little thick For some reason I thought they where there to damp out chassis resonance and vibration
Urban myth or whole truth some one knows the answer

Hi Willyecks
Haven't the slightest idea but I'm sure I read it on here.....maybe they're just a way of increasing fuel consumption or the designers had 2 bits of railtrack that they needed to find a use for.
Certainly didnt have them on the D1
PS maybe 'ride' was the wrong word to use...I'm not a techy tho

D3 balls make a big difference to the ride and handling. Especially if one gets hung up. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

CaverD3 Please explain how the D3 harmonic dampeners affect the handliing. I am often wrong but I just can't fathom this one. Club Pie n Pea

It has been posted on here before. Some have discovered one of the weights hung up on the towing harness. Some very odd handlng sensations ensued. If you have a large swinging weight designed to prevent vibration in the chassis, when one is not working it will affect the chassis dynamics.
Others may ber able to give a more technical explanation though. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I think the dampeners are there to stop chassis cracks, harshness and vibration entering the Cabin.
Being a Luddite I still don't believe thay affect the handling. Or am I confusing handling with ride.
I mean a good handler is not necessarily a good ride and vice versa Club Pie n Pea

....... after driving now for a week with "stiff suspension" , I'm still non the wiser. Its like riding a push bike that has springs but with flat tyres... ie, the suspension is working but there doesn't seem to be any dampening....
Nearly like the ride you get in locked down access mode...
any ideas ?
I guess I could rename this thread to "I don't think the Dampners are working" if indeed the D3 does have dampners ??? ..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

there are dampers / shock absorbers in the D3 suspension, typically if one has failed you'll notice the vehicle jumping to one side when you drive over schite British road repairs....
