I replaced my dryer early this year with this one, complete dryer and you can replace without taking the compressor off (which is a pain) you just need a stubby screwdriver to undo the locking screw “conveniently” placed at the top of the assembly and disconnect the 2 pipes then twist off.

Any idea how long it would take on average please? Is it a day or will I be off the road for longer?

Half hour, hour if you stop for coffee. Easier to do if you take the top half of the compressor cover out to give you more space, needs a bit of muscle To get out and more to get back in but worth it just be careful, you’ll loose some foam but possible to break it if you just go brute force2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Top half before removing it you mean?
I’m under the impression it’s take the bottom cover off, undo the cables, undo the compressor. Go to a table, open it up, replace rubber rings etc. Then fix it back on car, plug in, out new cover on. Done.
Does that sound right?

Silly me now I understand. I was under the impression it was replacing rubber rings. Turns out it’s a housing! Great I’ll replace it and keep the old one as a backup

Given it's probably been in there for more than a few years now you would ideally be better to remove it and refurb it properly. Have a look at the link below and then decide how far you want to go in terms of servicing.
Once you feel suitably informed you can then order the kit that suits the level of repair you are most comfortable with. In this way you will have the parts to hand before you begin, and you can always consider a more in depth refurb down the road if you do not feel confident enough to tackle all of it now.

Hi I’m looking to reduce the likelihood of breakdowns by servicing what needs to be done. What kit would you say would be the best please? Don’t mind a full breakdown it looks pretty straight forward!
Just don’t want to find I’m stuck in my job towing big weights and being late as it would be a catastrophe haha

What you are attempting here is preventative maintenance, which in my opinion is the best type of maintenance. I would suggest you go for either a main or a master kit, which will allow you to rebuild the entire air side with new components. The motor rarely gives trouble and you can leave this alone.
If you go for the Hitachi master kit some of the seals will not fit Dunlop compressors, which look identical to the Hitachi unit and vice versa!! It's more likely you have a Hitachi and not a Dunlop, but you will need to take a closer look just to be sure. Thank you I’ll take a closer look Sunday and order the correct kit. And yes preventative maintenance, something I can guarantee will save serious headache later on. I’ve nothing better to do in a pandemic but the d3 is a guaranteed investment to learn with all this free time mid pandemic

Unfortunately there are no guarantees against breakdown or component failure even with preventative maintenance. What it will do is tilt the odds a little more in your favour, as well as reducing your anxiety levels...hopefully. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Hi I’m about to buy something for the compressor maintenance...
Am I right in thinking the £25 reservoir replacement is the best option?
Or does the seal kit involve other parts as well as inside the reservoir?
Obviously rather replace it cheaper as above than pay more and have to open it up!

I have no experience of the vendor but for £25 you can't go too far wrong really. His feedback looks good if that helps you. I tend to use 4x4 Airseals in Warrington which can offer you drier kits as well as piston rebuild kits etc.

Probably frustrate you professionals
The full drier unit for £25 am I correct I’m thinking replaces the entire drier unit, rather than the more expensive kit which would involve taking apart and replacing parts. So the no brainier option is the drier unit to save money and time? Or is there something I’m missing?
Also could it be worth opening up the piston area and greasing up / checking? Or is there a cheap kit for this part of it too? Or is this something that doesn’t tend to have problems?

The ebay link you posted above clearly states they are offering a complete drier unit fitted with new desiccant and filters. However, if you are going to refurbish you might consider a full rebuild, hence I posted the 4x4 Airseals link with the other kits available for the Hitachi unit.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
