lovely....
I think it shows how sensitive the wheel choice is to the D5 look... putting that body kit and wheels on any D5 will certainly make it less of an ugly duckling....

Consider me unimpressed. It looks better, but offroading with 20 inch wheels is counterproductive, and a V8 supercharged petrol engine is also less than ideal. It seems like a poseur's car to me, at least at first glance. The visibility is just as bad as the stock D5, giant wheels with nearly no rubber for deflation or flotation, and a gas engine which is more vulnerable in river crossings...I know the kind of roads that they filmed this on for the production photos, and I would never want 20 inch wheels on them. I had 4 or 5 flat tires in the first year of my D4 on 18 inch wheels on these roads before I finally switched to a stronger class D BFG AT KO2 tire. The stock load rating and class of tires on the D4 is woefully inadequate for off roading, and that is with 265/65/18s, which is significantly more air than stock. I would imagine that this D5 with 20" wheels is going to ride super harshly and have flats all the time on the rocky highland roads. My friend here is a Land Rover experience driver and said that most of the guys here (Iceland) were very disappointed with the D5 in comparison to the D4 as an off road vehicle...this one does not seem to solve any of those flaws. They all think it is very capable, but it has certain flaws that make it problematic. Tire choice and wheel size is high on the list, as is the implementation of the terrain response system (apparently it is overly complicated for many of the drivers they deal with, even in comparison to the D4). Then there is the actual structure of the car itself...the difference in seating position, visibility, practicality in the cargo area, the tailgate implementation and so on. In any case, for me this one is too little, too late.

That's because they appear to have lifted the RRS2's drive train and put it in the D5. Note also the hydraulic anti roll bars that are, no doubt, the same as those in the RRS. These are excellent and give good on road roll control with better off road articulation.

Presumably the rear winch is because they can't fit it in front of the bigger engine and cooling pack.

Shame no one from the tech department proof read the captions for the video. Fairly sure the tyres aren't 815mm rolling radius. That would make them over 5 ft across!
