England 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Cairns BlueDiscovery 3

Have to admit, when i first got my MTR's i was a bit worried as they were noisy, there was a distinctive wobble from the steering wheel, steering felt quite vague and it appeared that they didn't hold the road as well as my 17 inch Contis M+S.
I've swapped between both sets now a few times (24k in 12 months, 20k Contis and 4k MTR's) and tbh, i'm favouring the MTR's, as they are excellent all round.
I do prefer the Contis for motorway driving - just because they're quieter and less wobble, but the MTR's are better IMHO in the wet, which has been reassuring over this summer Rolling Eyes
I'm quite happy to blast down to the office (104 miles) in the rain with the MTR's, but i do take it a little more careful with the Conti's.... although the Conti's have been a great tyre. Thumbs Up
I'll probably stick the MTR's on permanently from November onwards 8)

As soon as i wear down my 17 inch Conti's, i'm gonna sell the rims and buy some more MTR's, and if i can find a cheap set of HSE rims to set them off all the better Very Happy

I've just taken notice of this post by reading it and concentrating at the same time Whistle ...Mounty... most of us in the UK run with Goodyear Wrangler MTR's as this is the only off-road tyre for the 19inch wheel. I don't think you can compare this directly to a Colway TBH ...... Wink

BTW, haven't actually got around to swapping the MT/Rs back off mine from the last outing at Rockingham in mid June Rolling Eyes and compared to the Pirellis the only real difference is a bit of noise.... echo the other comments they are brilliant in very wet conditiions.

just popping back to the original subject for a minute. I've just driven around 1000kms in the past two days in my D3 with 19 inch MTR's and I have to say there is a noticeable difference in tyre roar depending on the type of road surface. I found that I don't really notice anything in Ireland but I could clearly hear the tyres when driving in Wales. I would like to point out that the majority of road surfaces were a lot better in Wales then in Ireland..... so perhaps they work more quietly on older road surfaces Question

The smoother the surface, the more direct sound will come back to you. With a rough road, a) you may be driving slower and b) the sound will be bounced off in different direction.

That's all my theory, but you never know, may turn out to be true.

Had my first motorway trip on them today, only abouit 25 miles each way, but the road rumble distinctly louder then the Scorpions, but still not too off-putting. started the journey on 22.3MPG & ended it with the reading at 22.9MPG.
Slight rumble to the stereing wheel as Rogue already mentioned, but I figure something that I'd get used to or may be it gets less when the tyres wear in a little.

I think it's too early to tell as I haven't even used a full tank yet. But I'll keep my eye on it and update once I've done maybe two tanks full with the MTRs
