Tailgate opening - am I missing something ?

Having had my 62 plate D4 for 6 months now came across an issue yesterday I hadn't had before either with it or my previous D3 which I had for 7 years

On picking my son up and sat in car he wanted to put something in the boot. I was sat with the car in D and engine running and unlocked the car by pressing the unlock on the driver handle.

The boot would not open and even with car in N did not

I know on my D3 there was an unlock button on the dash which opened the boot and all doors

The boot opens normally either by using the handle or using the key fob to unlock when the engine is off

Is it normal for the boot to only open when the engine is off. If not does anyone have any idea what the problem is ?

Needs to be in park with the engine running I think.

Yep, will only open when gearbox in Park. Thumbs Up MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added
MY2019 D5 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - sold to a dealer for a crazy price! - So good I bought another!
MY2012 D4 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - retired to a new home

Thanks all for the info and I will see if the boot opens in park tomorrow

I think I will give testing the safety feature mentioned by Dudley a miss. Would hate to damage the love of my life ( the disco of course !)

This has bothered me since I bought my D4. I thought I had to turn the ignition off. Just tested and lo, the tailgate opens when in P with the engine running.... thanks for the advice! MY16 D4 Graphite in Loire Blue

Scratching my head as to why you would want to risk having a body at the rear of the motor without it being in park Confused 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
