| Tailgate (Top) Lock has stopped working.... |

.... And the shopping is inside!!!
Hi all, wife panicking at home, shopping in the car she is outside the car....
It seems the lock to the tailgate is refusing to open. Have tried everything including the 'safety feature' highlighted in the hand book.
Does anyone have a tricks they can share?

By safety feature... do you mean having someone pull the tailgate as you press both open and lock buttons on the dash together at the same time??
She'll have to do what I did and put the second row seats down and drag the shopping out! As you slide down the banister of life

sounds like the release cable has snapped, can you hear the actuator working? if so and the door will still not open then it has snapped...common fault i'm afraid search this site a couple of us have repaired these and have posted instructions.... its a pig of a job though.... the parts are about £30 but labour at a dealer is steep, if under warranty good news for you!! i'm lovin it....

If you cant hear the actuaor working then just try moving the swithc around with you finger tips, This has happened on my dads and I found that the metal plate which contacts the micro switch had snapped.

This problem lies in the lower tailgate wher the actuator is located.
Get hold of some tyre levers or large spoons, from in inside the car start removing the lower boot trim by prising the carpet panel out of the plastic outer trim, ( from inside the car looking out the rear window this is in the left just after where it rises up)
One panel is pulled away you can just get your hand in ( you may need a torch) you will see the actuator cable and should be able to release.
Absulute tw** of a job  and you will need a new actuator as the cable does not come seperate £ 25.00 plus vat genuine
This job took me about 3 hours to sus it  out but once started 10 mins or so.

mine went too, but under warranty - they replaced the whole of tailgate switch, including the black plastic moulding with LR on it. Still, it works fine now! PRH

Ours did this in May, found you have to press and hold the dash buttons and have someone at the back to open it at the moment it 'pops'. Cured ours by fitting a new handle bought from TLO.

I did this job myself a month or so ago. Cost me £30 for the part (roughly including VAT) and 3 hours work. Dealer wanted in excess of £ 300.00. At the time I wasn't aware there was a post on this forum giving instrcutions but I winged it and managed it without damaging the interior trim panels to match. The cable in question is a crap design. It has a soft metal hook at one end that hooks over a pin in the latch. The worst part was sitting in the boot swaeting buckets trying t oease the trim panels off.
