Tapping & ticking noise when warm...

Hi all,

Well, here we go again Very Happy

I have a new tapping/ticking noise (see video as I increase revs)...

Driving the noise starts at 1500ish revs and goes off at about 1900.

When not under load it can be heard at about 1100ish revs.

Have a listen to the video.

Thank you in advance Smile

Hi Poorfarmer and welcome!

It's not that easy from the video you posted to pin point the noise.

It could be many things, some of which could be serious. So a few questions for you to consider which might help in diagnosing.

Did you have any recent engine work carried out? What mileage is on the car? Do you know if the old LR oil pump is still in place, or has the newer modified pump been fitted, and if so when?

Also if you could perhaps reposition your camera in front of, or moving from one side of the engine bay to the other, it might help gain a better recording of the sound!

Hi Profsr g,

102k on the clock and the last service was about 4K ago... As far as I know it’s the original oil pump.

Will try and get another video in the next day or two?!?

What are you thinking? Smile

Not really thinking anything specific yet. Just trying to gather an idea of it's condition and the possible problem. Clearer sound from the engine bay would be helpful.

In the meantime, if you can avoid driving it until a definite diagnosis has been made it may be in your interest. Thumbs Up

Just in case!!

Hi, poorfarmer Thumbs Up

Do you have yourself as we say in The Lowlands: “two right hands?”

Are you able to remove the oilfilter? If so, order a new one and remove this one... Cut it in half... Open it up and see what is inside....

If clean, big chance issues are in the top of the engine...

How high is the oil level anyway?
 Best regards
Harold
