has this ever been attempted?
with the horrific number of crank failures and few replacement engines or subs i wonder if the Td5 engine has ever been considered as a replacement for the TDV6? the Td5 is a punchy engine and spares are readily available. suitable donor engines are also plentiful.
i own a manual with a snapped crank and need to consider my options.
although many have tried rebuilds, it is strangely not very successful and failures occur again shortly after.

i would have thought the TD5 is too long to fit in the engine bay, nevermind getting the Engines ECU to talk to the rest of the ECU's... Si

I actually wondered about the 3.0 diesel unit from a bmw. Landrover were owned by them back then, same box etc. Then I thought “perhaps it’s too long” Jarrod

Yes but a company in Coffs Harbour is putting Ranger 3.2 engines into Defenders - the Ranger 3.2 is the same family of engines as the Puma 2.2 etc so bolts up to the gearbox.
Why not a GM LS Conversion https://levelsperformance.com/blogs/...r-ls-swap-blog

BMW is a straight 6, and definitely longer than the TDV6...
and you think the D3 has enough electronics in it!!!!!
. If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking .. O
