Just wondering if other cars that use the 2.7 Diesel engine, such as the Jag S Type suffer the same failures such as oil pump casing and spun crank bearings? Have been looking into the possibility of buying a jag with a sound engine to keep for future use in case my disco runs into problems in the future.

I think the same engine is also used in the Citroen C6.
However, I wouldn't bother TBH - you can get a refurbed unit from LR that comes with a 2-year warranty for £3,900 plus the VAT. Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
Previously:
TD5 Defender 110 CSW (230k miles)
300TDi Disco 1 (289k)
4 RR Classics (300-350k each, 2 manual, 2 auto)
110 V8 CSW (220k)
S3 109 hi cap pickup (ex RN)
S2A 88 Safari SW with lpg conversion (bloody lethal)
