TDV6 oil consumption
After nearly 9000 miles from new, I thought I'd better check the oil for the 1st time... not very smart, I know, especially as I have read about the TDV6 needing the occasional oil top-up. Anyway, the dipstick level was right on the minimum (i.e. only the last red blob covered). The owners manual says that the difference between min and max on the dipstick equates to 1.5ltr..
So, if anyone could answer these 2 questions, I'd be grateful:
1. Should I be adding in 1 or 1.5ltrs?
2. Is there no warning light/message that should have lit up? (My wife's Golf at least has the courtesy to light up the dash with an "add 1 litre" message every 7,000mls or so!)
Thanks in advance, guys.DGRR

1. Do 1L and check after.
2. No. Only warning will be low pressure, which will be much lower than minimum on the dipstick.
The Golfs' message would just be done on mileage, and would have been a rough estimate, not an actual measure of the oil used.Disco 5 HSE Lux

1 litre only. The only warning will be a slight tapping noise, shortly followed by a loud bang as the crank escapes from the block

That was quick! Thanks guys - a ltr of Castrol's finest it is, then. 5w/30 I believe. Out of interest, between now (9,000mls) & the 1st/15k service, how many more ltrs would you expect the engine to need? By the way, I don't cane it (the car, that is), & it's shortest journey from cold is rarely less than 10 miles, so the engine leads a fairly stress-free life.DGRR

Probably a bit less, the engine gets better after a few thousand. I would keep an eye on it though.

The 07MY's have a sticker on the fuel filler flap suggesting that the fluid levels should be checked every 600 miles...

You should check oil every 250 miles, that's a quote from my Local Land Rover Dealer (Lookers - Chelmsford). My needs constant topping up, I've done 4,500 miles. This is the first car that I ever had to do this, why are these engines so thirsty I’m adding about 1 litre every 500 miles or so !

That would suggest a possible leak to me
Due to the semi-porous nature of the block you can expect to top up with a litre or so for the first 6k or so then next to nothing after that.
I've not needed to add any since a 7.5k oil change (now on 38k)The End

I've only needed 1.5 ltrs since new... added the last 1/2 ltr the other day. Not needed any since 45K service - now at 54K.

That would be acceptable on a 15 year old banger - not on a D3 - you have a leak or there is oil going through the combustion system either way dont be fobbed off - there is a fault. 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.
