Been lucky enough to have a D3 TDV6 loaner, instead of the usual Freelander, whilst my car is in for a service.
I think you TDV6 chaps are very lucky. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at its performance and smoothness. My original cynicism stems from stepping out of a TD5, but this is in a class of its own. My usual route into work has some nice twisty bits and expected the diesel to struggle pulling out of the bends - my TD5 never seemed to be in the power band for a swift exit – but this REALLY surprised me.
Very quiet and no clouds of black smoke from the rear-view mirror. AND I saw 27.1 mpg… I mean what’s that all about – didn’t know the digits climbed above 20?
Ride seems a little more compliant, but I put this down to the 17†vs. 19â€, although to be honest, it is so marginal it may well be an inter-vehicle difference – no two the same.
Curious now to see how this differs over a chipped one.
Depending on the time it takes to sort my mota, might have this for the weekend. Now that would be fun. D3 HSE V8...

I think you'd be pleasantly surprised by a TDV6 with ITG filter & T/C.
I'd like to see how it compares with a V8, the T/C improves the torque which is already slightly higher than the V8(iirc). So I'd imagine in real world driving there wouldn't be much in it. Except of course the MPG

What I was surprised by is the real-world feel of the TDV6 vs. the published figures. I'm sure the printed matter is spot on, but it's what these mean on the road - a bit of an eye-opener
In standard form, this TDV6 is pretty nimble. D3 HSE V8...

Very true, the real world driving experience is often very different to what one percieves from the performance fiqures.
Mid-range torque is what's important in the real world. A classic example of this is the Saab 9-5 Aero, on paper the performance fiqures aren't spectacular, but the oomph between 50-70mph will shame many much faster cars.

I too have come out of a Td5. The TDV6 just blows my mind everytime I drive it. I just love the car. '06 TDV6 SE AUTO BUCKINGHAM BLUE

Makes me realise what a tired little engine the TD5 was. And noisy! D3 HSE V8...

What I've trying to tell all those keen on chipping and buying performance add ons for ages... yes more power is always nice, but the standard machine is great once on the go.

Simon, to add to your earlier comments - if this is standard, ie not chipped and can't see why it would being a dealer loaner, I am absolutely smitten with it. What impressed me this evening (whilst using up the derv I've filled it with before it goes back tomorrow), was the confidence pulling out of junctions and the take up. My old TD5 was more pull out and hope the size intimidates the on-coming traffic to brake rather than know it will quickly make progress. Also, what happened to the smoke trail on hard acceleration? I thought your only chance of a quick getaway from the lights was to deprive the other cars of clean air and vision?
Sweet, really sweet.
PS. If you repeat any of these comments I'll deny everything. D3 HSE V8...

nope... don't see the point. Especially since the engine management re-map in WDS 13 patch 4 (think its 4)
Also will be done during the 'hit me with the good stuff' Enhancement Program
But I would guess your dealer loaner has had this patch already even if not the full Enhancement.
Also I see no reason to make the D3 go faster. All you would do is have to use your brakes more at every corner as the handling is the same.

Oh and I don't drive slow... love the way the thing handles for such a big beast and enjoy the corners and twisty bits.
Cruise the motorways as there are too many speed freaks always up yer bumper.
