temporary battery charging question
I am about to deliver a new battery just bought from a factors to someone I have sold a vehicle to. I want to make sure the battery is fully charged when he gets it. I don't have time to charge it at home.
The question is, would I be able to give the battery a top up charge by just connecting it to a 12v socket in my car for the 2 hour drive. I don't want to damage either the battery or my car electrical system.
Thanks for any help.

I assume a ciggie plug with ring connectors on the other end? I'd imagine (as a non thechie) that it could well blow the fuse if there is a big surge.

Thanks DSL. I would hope that the battery is not too flat so I wouldn't expect any big surges - I hope.
Doing as you suggest will have limited success as you will put the new battery in parallel with the one in the vehicle. The electronics will get a bit confused and are unlikely to belt out the expected charge.
There is however a gadget that consists of a length of cable with a cigar lighter style plug on each end and a box of electronics in the middle. It is intended to charge a flat battery in another vehicle and increases the voltage on the output plug. That would do what you need.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Thanks Navigator. I wondered if that might be the case.
