I recently bought my Disco3 and have a couple of questions regarding the terrain repsonse and difflock. Here goes:
1 Does the Disco 3 have a rear or central difflock?
2 I assume it is auto engaging, but under which setting of the terrain response does it become active/engaged?
3 Does the traction control de-activate when diffs are locked?
4 What is the best for soft sand, DSC on/off?2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

Hi Jacques,
1. All have centre locking diff, some have active rear diff that can lock when needed. If you have the screen that shows 4x4 info you can see when they are locked up, although I'm not sure if you can rely on that to tell whether there actually is a locking rear diff - best way is to look underneath - the locking diff has a motor on top with electrical connections.
2. It's automatic but with some settings the diffs are pre-loaded so they are ready to lock quickly and I think in rock-crawl in first gear they lock.
3. TC still works - on D3s without a locking rear diff TC serves the same purpose if you get the car cross-axled with two wheels off the ground.
4. I'll leave that to someone who's actually done some sand driving to answer!
But why a central diff lock if TC is much more advanced? My old TD5 series 2 had TC and a mate of mine 110 V8 with central diff. Off road, 110 is no match for the TC, why then both as standard on D3?2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

Having both is surely better than only one
TC will work independently on each wheel of course to assist keeping each driving wheel maintain traction and avoid loss of power to a spinning wheel.
The diff will of course only lock the front and rear axels together.
Having TC as well would mean each wheel can be braked in order to 'feed' power to the non slipping wheel either side of the locked axel.
thanks Simon, I agree, more is better, that's why we all bought D3's an not Pajero's or even worse.....a Prado!2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

Sensible
There are various threads on DSC and a good session with the Search function will no doubt dig them out for you.
As for over here, I leave it on and only turn it off if I know I want full power and the ability for the D3 to slide around when on a tricky climb / section.
LR did a cracking job with TR, so I would leave as default, unless you find your getting engine power cut and DSC lighting up on the dash. Then back off, switch DSC off and try again.
I like the safety net it brings TBH
Just be interactive with it.
A good number here have been to Tunisia, Morocco and of course live on the same continent as you, I am sure someone will be along soon to add to the answers.
Maybe edit your thread title to include "on sand" or some such, it may attract them over or hit the red triangle and ask the mods to move the thread to the Africa section where most of them hang out

The 4x4 info display is not enabled on the SE, but I can certainly do this if you would like to pass by with a few buffalos in your pocket

Anyone have trouble with their diff actuator? I had suspension failure on wet roads and just got the car back from LR. They claim its software issue which was upgraded on the diff actuator.
Does this make sense?2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

Got your PM and responded, thanks
Yup, I think DeonDef had some similar experience IIRC
