The garage has confirmed the crank has gone. It’s turning over but very tight probably a slipped shell.
Now to decide to break and sell the bits or sell as a whole.

Really sorry to hear this.

Warranty company forked out for a new engine in mine at similar mileage, and rest of the car still going strong at 230K now.

In hindsight, if I had to pay, I'd still have stuck a new engine in at the mileage I was at. There's a fair chance I might do the same again if this one goes pop too.

Well since my engine went pop I have been discoless for 6 months. Great car and throughly enjoyed driving it. I toyed with getting another one but just can’t justify the spend and maintaince with a house to build and land to purchase. Once it’s built though you are welcome for a north west meet. Plenty of off road tracks, pub within walking distance and room for tents and caravans. Now back to to a Passat estate that I had before the disco and enjoy this car as well.
