Does this D4 deal make sense?

Been offered an apparent discount of 20% against a D4 HSE, taking over £10k off the list price. The car will be standard HSE trim plus metallic paint and remote heating.

The next suggestion was that the car's 2nd hand value would be around £43k 12 months later.

Clearly this looks too good to be true as 12 months motoring would cost next to nothing and I would have another D4 at the end of it.

So is a 2nd hand value of £43k achievable for a car that currently has a list price of £53k that I will only actually pay £43k for?

(kinda need Gaz here for his knowledge of real-word trade-in and private sale prices)

D4 hse in dealers just over 40k 1 year old now.

Perhaps it will be 43k in a year but that will be top dealer value they put it on the forecourt for so to you would think 38k max.

Nobody for certainty can see which way the market is going to turn, 2008 4x4 lost value hand over fist, 1 bad winter restored normal service and even though fuel prices are much higher than then their value has not suffered.

reckon mine has lost 15k in last 12 months Big Cry

I would have thought £43k for a new HSE has got to be pretty good whatever.
Check on the LR used car finder and I dont think you will find year old ones at that price, also taking into account the changes ie 8 speed etc think these will be holding their values that bit better for a while

I think you've made your mind up, but wanted to show us what a good discount you got. You don't need confirmation you got a good deal. Thumbs Up

Hope it does not come across that way as I am naturally sceptical and rather short of funds at the moment (just bought a new car and a ride-on mower for the wife). But as you say, the deal has pretty much made my mind up but I appreciated the reality check that the car is going to be worth more like £40k after a year.

I think I need to double check with Duckworth's that they have their sums correct as it all seems too good to be true. Kinda expecting them to say 'sorry, we accidentally gave you the XS price'! Neutral

Also expected my D3 to sulk at the thought of being sold.

If its for you to buy and run for a year you will not get lower depreciation unless you buy used.

Dont bank on it being worth more than £37k at the end though i'd say and if winter hits then the price will go up and you'll not lose as much Smile

Ok, looks like I will sell a kidney or something and go and chat with Duckworth's to see if this offer is genuine.

Not what I was expecting to do this weekend… need to chat with the wife too...

When an established broker such as Motorlogix is offering 8%, either you.ve got a one-off deal that you should just grab, or there is a catch such as it being their dealer-demo raher than a new car Shocked

To be fair, I get 20% off due to the disability allowance plus the dealer discount due to me changing the car every six months. USUALLY there is very little or no cost to change so these figures tally with my situation. As long as it is the 8 speed twiddly knob version, I don't see that this is a bad deal at all personally. Hope this helps?

I'll try to see or at least speak to the dealer tomorrow, but if 20% is possible for the mobility chaps then this apparent deal via my wife's pension scheme seems credible. The price sheet enclosed gives the % off but lists the Feb prices rather than the latest one, so I will need to see an updated one.

We have also been warned that the lead-time on new D4 deliveries is not quick at all, but at least that give me some time to find the money from somewhere. Before I found this offer the closest I could get was via military discount which was listed at 14% but on looking harder the deal didn't match the headline figure as the reduction was only on certain bits of the price rather than the full OTR price.

Clearly all of us who have been test drivers for the D4 program by driving a D3 for 7 years should be given a D4 as a thank-you, but LR have yet to respond to my suggestion. Can't think why.

Still feel like I will be posting on here tomorrow that I have been had in some way or that the catch is so big that I will need the embarrassed emoticon in a major way. In fact I better check it works, just in case:

Dave, I have no knowledge of the scheme beyond Steve's post above and I was probably mistaken in using the 'mobility' term as re-reading it it was not the term used by him. I fear I have added confusion for which I am sorry. The deal I am looking at is linked to one of my wife's pension schemes only.
